Any GS500 part I can find on ebay!

I have to say WOW! As I dig deeper and master the international key words, you can get everything from European sellers: headlight fairings, complete fairings, belly pans (aka bugspoiler), stainless steel pegs, brand new Suzuki factory gas tanks for the 89-2000 model (and newer models), the old style factory clip ons. Once you break the barrier of getting full search access to international places, the parts are endless. It seems the GS500 was and is still extremely popular in Europe.

Some hints: search for "gs500*", "gs 500*" "gs 500-e" and add other words to refine the search. Don't be afraid to use the advanced search and tell it to include the entire world.  "Verkleidung SUZUKI" brings up fairings in German. Put words in parenthes like "(tail, cowling, belly)" means it looks for any of those words. Pout a minus in front of a word like "-motorcycle" and it eliminates all of the sellers with "motorcycle covers" because it excludes that word and people selling parts don't use the word "motorcycle". Including "suzuki" helps restrict the search.

Maybe I should write an FAQ on how to find GS500 parts all over the world on ebay and include a dozen sample search strings. Is there interest in that?

You can find all parts from bearings to axles, wheels, brakes, master cylinders, levers, frames, seats, seat locks, fuel caps.....  And even with shipping, often cheaper than parts in the USA.

You see, my mother is 89 and sometimes can get me a little stressed out. Riding my GS500's and now finding parts on ebay puts me in my "happy place". My accountant said I can buy a company bike (like a company car). Does that mean a 3rd GS500 is in my future? CL is just full of great deals this time of year.

Along with the NEW gas tanks, I have found sets of matching tail covers. Now I can change the tail to change the color scheme with the seasons. Take 15 minutes and swap tanks and tail pieces and its like having a new bike. Its going to drive my friends crazy.
Restoring my bike to factory specs without having to repaint it! Think of the peace of mind by having a brand new gas tank with no rust or contamination. I think a copy of the factory gas cap (from the UK) was $40. It could probably be re-keyed to match your bike.

My extra parts will go up for sale here in a couple months. It will include a tank, tail cover sets, clip on sets and who knows what else.  I'm buying assorted colors, will put them on my 1992 bike for a week each, then decide what color/style I like best, and put the others up for sale. But doesn't every GS500 look great?

If you need to un-do or lessen a fenderectomy, I have seen the tail fender WITH all reflectors and the turn signals for as low as $30! Not a bad thing to do if you want to re-do a fenderectomy, un-do it or experiment with different styles.

Obviously tonight is a stress night as it is 2:15am here. Buying a Gimbel "bugspoiler" and headlight fairing for half the cost in the US and that includes shipping from Germany.

As an example for Gimbel parts I just bought:
Euro    149,-- for the fairing  (US price is like $320)
Euro     119,-- for the belly-pan (US price is $300)
Euro     169,-- for the foot rest kit (US price is $400)
Euro       59,--,-- for freight costs
Euro    496,-- total

So at about $130 exchange rate, I paid about $644 as opposed to over $1000. I just have to wait 7 to 14 days for them to arrive. I can wait when saving $400.

Oh, well, enough ranting tonight. Completing payments to UK and Germany since its morning there.

Use this as your ebay search string. There are a number of items. Then, at the bottom of the screen click on the "include all international sellers" and you'll get all the europen items, not just the first few.

gs50* suzuki (head,lamp,headlamp,headlight)

Once you find something, always check out the sellers other items and do searches for gs50* or other things and browse through what they have.
Things like mounting brackets, end bar weights, peg brackets, etc. are often in a "pile-o-parts" so to speak. Things like a headlight bracket are not worth the time to sell, so they throw the stuff in a box as the bike is parted and sell it for $30 or so. It is also handy for extra screws and those little things you drop on the floor and can't find. Zoom in on those parts box pictures.

I have noticed as well the lack of parts for the gs on american ebay. I did a search on the canadian ebay and found alot more. most of them shipping from american suppliers that just didn't list on the american ebay.  Might help those who don't want to pay overseas shipping

Good ebay-ing! That goes tops on the ebay search tips list. Maybe the US got into the liter bikes and the GSXR's while Canada and Europe continued to love the 500's and similar bikes. That could explain the lack of smaller, non racing (aka crotch rocket) bikes and parts in the US.

Another tip: If you've dropped your E and scratched up one side tail cover, don't repaint them. There is a smorgasbord of tail pieces available from all colors and styles. That inventory changes regularly so if you need a certain color and side, just set up a search that emails you daily and wait for the correct piece to show up. I'm one for trying to keep things original.

If you want to paint, then buy a damaged other side to paint both sides and sell the good one. I suspect there is someone needing one side.

to answer your question, if it isn't much trouble a write up would be splendid.

My 2009 GS500F was built in Spain!
I'll be in Berlin at end of December. Maybe we can make a list of what each want... wrap them up in pretty paper... and exchange Christmas GS500 gifts! I can hop on the ICE and meet somewhere halfway.
