I don't know, It depends what you're selling!!  I'd love a marantz 4300/4400, 2330, Pioneer SX-1080, sx-1280, sx-1980, well........you get the idea.  Marantz is on the top of my list right now.

Muaahahahahaha ... I am a hardcore marantz fan too. Both vintage and HT. 2325/2330/2385 is one more of those I am chasing too. I got a pair of ar TSW 910's that simply would love the power. But they are 4 ohm, and tailor made for my oink tx - sv 909 I'd say.

The 4 series marantzes IMHO over rated. The 4230 I got sounds quite a bit thinner and less sharp than the 2226 or the 2220. For a vintage quad I actually think a HK 800+ or its bigger/smaller brothers sound better. Of course a 2 series marantz has no equal ... 2230 especially. I have heard a 2230 but dont own one, I got a 2220 and a 2226. The other surprise from marantz is - the home theater amps - I have an sr 580 and it is easily the best sounding HT amp I have, and I have some serious HT amps, dsp 3090 (better than the dsp a1 if you ask me and a oink integra tx - sv 909 pro) and the 580 easily sounds better. The weird thing is, the sr5000 and sr4500 are 1 year newer than the 580 I wanna say and dont sound as good.

Dude 1980 - everyone wants a 1980, the closest I got is a 950, I am fixing this guy's 1250, he also has a 1980 needing a rebuild. Seriously I like the 80 series sound more than the 50, I cant see why the 50 is more valuable.

I also like the R series yamaha and 1000 series oink. And the 30 series HK's. In fact I am surprised how nice that sounds compared to most any marantz.

You do know mailing any of these anywhere is gonna be 100 bucks or so right. Just troll the yard sales enough and these will turn up. Here is one more thing in favor of buying them up cheap.
These things were made in the 70's. They were bought by people who were atleast 20 (at a very minimum) in the 70's. Those people now are atleast 60. Guess what people who are 60 and older do - they retire and move to florida. Here is somehting else I know for a fact. No one I know has 1 vintage amp. Yes, no one has 1 old amp. The minimum number seems to be 40, and I know of atleast 4 people in a 50 mile radius that have that much under their coffee table.

Seriously the market for this crap is very very very thin. People have no clue, they want Ipod and little ass crap. You show them a 40lb monster the first thing they ask is - does it have hdmi ? WTF  :cookoo: ... anyway when the "collectors" get sick of holding 300 of these, guess what ebay or no ebay, it will turn up for 20-30 bucks in your backyard. I wont pay to ship it, it wont be worth it.

Wow, good response buddha!  Of course the Unicorn sx-1980 would be nice.  My buddy found a yard sale sx-1250 for $100 in MINT condition. It is an absolute beast and would be all kinds of happy with that thing.  I am going for newer speakers and older gear because I flat think it out performs the current markets stuff unless you start to get into the ridiculously high end gear which I refuse to pay for because I'm cheap.  I just keep my eye out and continue to use my sx-535 in my garage as a little man cave out there, and for now I'm still into the newer gear but am slowly changing things around in my HT gear but its tight due to money and having a baby on the way!

You can seriously do better than a 535 ... I actually love old speakers too. There is nothing in the world that can out run my heils for transient highs, or with the ev sp12's except for a ev15 or a variety of other speakers of the 60's that used the same drivr compliment (JBL, klipsch, altec lots of em) or the early 80's acoustic Pro audio 3212C or the acoustic research tsw 910 beasts I have. Now If you plonk down 5g you can beat it, a set of martin logans will do nicely, but ML's need power and lots of it. That again costs. ML also is a tricky load. Wildly varying impedance very susceptible to a dusty environment and more. No thank you, I'll take my heils. I used to like infinity, but I find their non ribbons bland and the ribbons are again a hard load to drive.

Anyway I just got a nad 2400 power amp, it can drive 4 ohm well, I'll figure out what I drive wiht it soon enough. I think I am going 4 ohm in all speakers. Heils are 4, Big AR is 4. In advertently I am a 4 ohm user now.

Anyway look for a 50 series pioneer or better yet an 80, 780, 880, 980 etc all are usually cheap, tx3000, 4000 oinks also dont carry much $. They sould like a marantz - close enough, but are much cheaper. R series yamaha too, but they are poor at driving complex loads.

The thing is these end up @ GW after a sale fails to happen either off CL or ebay or what not. So They never go for much ... the ever revolving supply pool keeps it that way.

I paid 25 for my 950, I have this 1250 sittng here dead on a and c, but B works, and sounds like that 950, besides I cannot push a 100 watts into any of my speakers in my house, the cops will show, that is if the house dont fall down first. Oh yea, I dont ahve inefficient spekaers, all of mine are 95 db/w/m and up. The PS3212 is near about 105db/w/m. tear your ears out, and it is a prefectly steady 8 ohm load to an amp. Heils too are all resistance and very steady loads. Easy to drive high, easy to drive low, and easy to drive loud and easy to drive soft. I kinda find and buy speakers that are ruler flat impedance. Dont want to deal with no dead amp, cos I got a lot of good amps. Its the spekaers fault IMHO if it kills an amp.

1980 - plenty were made and sold, they are not going to rocket in value. I'd take it easy and one is bound to show up. No one has 1 old amp, the minimum is 40 and I think I am in danger of being penalised for dropping below the minimum. BTW this year superb owl I didn't own anything made before 2000. Now I have so many I cant count em, sadly I dont think I am unique at finding this crap. There is quite a few that have filled up buildings upon buildings wiht this. Guess what, when they die, or get divorced, or move or just get fed up carrying a 60lb monster - it gets set curbside. My ar tsw 910 was free from a friend who was getting divorced and she ordered him to throw it out. Thorw it out is my middle name.

Cool.

Well, that makes more then one of us riding the unemployment train. I got canned a week ago, enjoying the time off but obviously concerned about the future! On the upside I just ordered some parts for my bandit and might do a trip. I'm thinking either Baton Rouge to the Great Lakes or BR to Seattle. Washington would be a hell of an adventure at over 5000 miles. Yes indeed, times are a changing...
