My gs500e is ten years old with 5,000 miles.  It is all stock; but it is in perfect tune.  It just got it's first set of new tires.  Bridgestones (stock).  I put on some organic Kevlar pads (stock).  This motorcycle now feels as precise as my bicycle.  Whoa!  I have been enjoying the screeching downshifts like crazy.  Particularly while running up on some Harley hoggers.  Sorry you all wasted 10k.

Yeah it is kind of a funny econmic desparity from owning a GS to other bikes. I like all kinds of bikes but IMHO there is no better all around bike then the GS and yes I laugh at the week end warrior mentality with their loud pipes and 1000 dollar leather outfits!

Wasted $10k? nah at least $20k, those things are ungodly expensive.

The only reason my other non-GS bikes have gotten expensive is because they have a pretty decent selection of aftermarkets/modifications to be done. That's probably one of the best money saving factors of the GS, not having shiny upgrades for us to drool over.

karatechop5000

tt4 It was a rough estimate.  Not all the extra cost is a waste, I'm sure.  Plus...  ten years is ten years.  I wish it wasn't.  I have to say not giving up bicycling makes the gs seem like a rocket.  It's all relative.

You better put some more miles on before you criticize the wannabes.  At this point you're a wannabe with a cheap bike.

Grats on your bike  :thumb: Have fun. Just remember some HD riders do not like to be overtaken ;p

Am not.  I guess I don't get what you mean.

Twisted.  Thanks for the tip.  I wasn't rude to anybody.  I braked to take a right better road.

10 year old tires? Did they dry rot at all?

Think he was just picking on you for insulting other riders bikes(even if they are HDs) when your bike is averaging 500 miles a year. As much as they get picked on, there's plenty of HD riders who put that many miles on their bike in a day or two.

Yeah they were rotton.  I bought my bike used this year.  I have been reading this forum, particularly about tires and fuel metering.  I have developed a wack theory about the lean jetting and measly fuel delivery from the tank.  At least I'll never get CO poisoning.  I prefer riding in the fall because the protective gear is much more comfortable.  Blah blah blah...
Good work documenting this experience everyone.

Well if he catch up to Hoggers and was smart enough to buy a GS he can make fun of the weekend warrior non riding, overpaying, annoying arse farking pipes riding dikcheads in my book all he wants!  :thumb:

P.S. I think his first post took for granted most people would understand he just got the bike? Just saying?
