So can I fit a ignition and seat lock from 01+ bike into a 89-00 bike? is there any difference?

i read that the gas cap is the same so i'm not worried about that.

The seat lock mounts different. Old one mounts to the frame with a bracket. New one mounts to the plastic tail piece. You could always make a little bracket or maybe put the new one on the old bracket (Its dark outside - I'd have to look at them carefully in the daylight).
I had thought the ignition was the same, but they have different part numbers.
Key is the same, even though they have different part numbers. Dealer price is $19.52 for the old one and $15.06 for the newer one. Go figure!
Maybe someone else can sound off on the ignition switch.
Gas caps are 100% interchangeable, even though they are made slightly different.

ignition is the same, gas cap is the same,  and you can swap out the tumblers from the new seat lock into the old one, so that the key will work it too.  I have actually re-keyed my entire lockset on my bike, as it has a 06 ignition switch, 04 gas cap, and a 01 sv650 seat lock (goes with my sv tail) and they all 3 use the same key now  :thumb:

Good to know Jeremy. How did you re-key them? I'd love to re-key my '92 to match my '09 so I only need one key. One less key to carry.
