So after about 24K miles, the bike kicked the bucket. Seems like one of the connecting rods broke. How much am I looking at in parts if I part it out? Its a Suzuki GS500F 2005. Thanks!

Wow, that sucks! I've got an '04 and other than the little electricle grimlin this morning all has been well with the bike. Do you know what caused it?

The mechanics told me the connecting rod had broken, judging from the sound of the bike, I don't think it could be anything else. I've spent too much time and money on this bike and would like to upgrade to a fuel injected 600 bike instead.

Look at the GSX-650-F
A big sister to the GS500 with fuel injection. Rides like the GS500. I test rode one and liked it. I couldn't justify the expense to trade in Suzi for it. So instead I bought a second GS500. Is that weird or what?

Try selling it first as a bike that need a motor. Less work than parting it out.

How much do you think I can get for it though in that condition? (First bike needs motor) ? A few hundred?

jeremy_nash

depending on where your at, I will give $100.  but then again it isn't really valuable to me as I already have a bike that needs a motor.
gsxr shock
katana FE
99 katana front rim swap

WOW! Catostrophic failure at 20K were you hard on the bike at all? I have two GS500's 9K on a 1990 and 11K on a 94 I hope I am not going to have those issues. They have been "Old Yeller's" for me from 80MPH for hours...to just cruising?

Sorry about the failure. That's a pretty substantial part to go cactus. Drifting a little bit off topic. Does the Suzuki factory Spain make the engines for our bikes?

JB848

So you never said..How hard did you ride it?

Buy a used engine from a crashed bike for a few hundred and swap motors.  The bike is too new to part-out if it hasn't been all rashed-up.
V&H pipes, K&N drop-in, seat by KnoPlace.com, 17/39 sprockets, matching grips, fenderectomy, short signals, new mirrors - 10 scariest words: "I'm here from the government and I'm here to help!"

Considering this now. How hard is it to swap out the motors?
