Hi there everybody.
I'm a fellow GS owner from Denmark who have been lurking around the forum anonymously for a couple of months now. I bought a '99 this summer as my first bike and considering its age the bike is pristine. I haven't had any problems yet whatsoever but the other day I noticed a tiny holy beneath the exhaust muffler. It was a darn cold morning so the hot exhaust turned white as soon as it reacted with the cold air and that is why i noticed the hole. Now, it's perfectly oval so it looks as if it was drilled but what for? Do any of you have something similar and do you reckon I should do something about it? Here's a picture of the bike in all its glory and also a closeup of the hole =)

Oval or round?

(Your pics look like "X"s to me...)

Hello, supposed to be there for water trapped in muffler to drain out

Jared

It's a drainage hole for condensation etc....if it's the hole i think you are referring to.

Yeah that was me.    One of my rides

Bugger! I'll try that again. It's probably round and not oval. Geometry never was my thing =P

How about this?

That hole is there for water to drain out in case any comes in the end of the pipe.

Welcome!

Nice bike!

Yep, that's the drain for the muffler.

Thanks man. It had 22.000 km on the clock when I bought it and the previous owner had taken very good care of it. He only used it in the weekends. I now use it for everyday commuting in all kinds of weather so I'm struggling to keep it as clean as he did =)
