apologize if buddha is already saying this but reversing the sprockets is a way to extend parts life for those who cannot get new part

Interesting suggestion.....but will the sprockets on a GS5 actually fit in the reversed position and if they do will chain alignment be maintained??

They are only reversable if you put your bike in the garage backwards. :thumb:

Pre 96 will reverse easy. In 96 they put a shouldered sproket, that wont reverse I dont think.

'94 is the changeover year for the shouldered sprocket.  I have a '94 that uses the shouldered sprocket, but some '94's do not use the shouldered sprocket (AR5ENAL's '94 did not have one).

I did try using one one year with a washer, but thought better of it (I changed mine before there was any spline wear on the shaft (which is why they went to a shouldered sprocket)).
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

What about the rear?
My rear sprocket has a rebate machined into the PCD where the nuts clamp it to the hub, would this be significant if the sprocket was reversed?

I always go by the old standard,  "Reverse your chain every time you reverse your pistons and valves or every third time you flush and refill your tires, whichever comes first". That's the easiest way to remember.

I'm not a racist, some of my best friends are you people.

I have ran my front sprocket in both directions, shoulder out, and shoulder in.  I never noticed an appreciable difference in chain alignment either way

not possible, the front sprocket isn't even as big as the hub on the sprocket carrier.  not going to work, not to mention that the rear sprocket will never fit under the sprocket cover anyway  :thumb:
