What year did the size of the frame change around the tail light area? The more modern ones are alot narrower it seems. I just bought a luggage rack for an earlier model(90) and its way too wide for my later model(05). Thanks

I would say the 2001+ are wider.  I installed an F taillight on an E and I had to shave a good deal of plastic off the back to get it to fit.

Basic frame is the same. At least when changing the plastic undertail - they are the same so that means the frame is the same.
Others are correct in that what is different are the side rails, plastics mountings and where the side stuff bolts on. That's why one rack won't fit the other IF it requires mounting to the sides. A rack (like the Renntec and another one) that mount only to the passenger grab and the innerds near it are pretty universal with maybe a slight tween in trimming the plastic around the grab rail.

Which luggage rack did you buy? Pictures?

(I guess I have an advantage of having a 1992 and a 2009 so I'm always looking at the differences and similarities and sometimes swapping parts.)

Could someone do me a favour? Could someone with a pre 2001 model measure between the 2 bolts(outside frame to outside frame) where the bars that you tie luggage to under the rear fairing are. I know the front bolts are not in line so just to the opposite side will do thanks.
