Heating Gas Tank?!

Hey guys,

In the wiki, there's a "how to remove stock warning stickers" write up.  I'd like to remove these stickers.  However, the FAQ suggests using a hair drier to heat up the sticker/surrounding metal, so that it's easy to peel off.

My concern is with the gas tank.  Is it safe to heat it up with a blow drier?  Should I drain the fuel and let it air out first?

There is no danger of explosion from a full tank----an empty tank with fumes is a different story. If you lit a completely full tank it would burn like a roadside smudge pot.

Used hair dryer to remove all fugley warning stickers. Warm enough to start peeling off then keep warm as you SLOWLY pull off. Heat from a hair dryer is not hot enough to reach the flash point for gasoline.

My black gas tank gets way hotter on a sunny day than you could ever get it with a hair dryer. Should be fine.

If you are really worried I would put a cold wet towel around the stickers you want to remove. This would keep all but the area you are removing the sticker from cool. The fumes should be dissipated by the built in systems of the tank and be as safe as smoking a cigarette on your bike.

i did it with mine just dont use wd40 as sugested on some sites it makes the stickier almost imposible to hold on to just the hair drier very slowly.

nah all good i was more worried about the paint work but it came up trumps.PS you have to get the sticker really hot,much hotter than you think.

I used a heat gun to remove mine and some turps on a rag to remove the residue left over.

I also used a paint heat gun - be careful not to get too close with a heat gun else you blister the paint. Remaining residue removed with some tea tree oil.
