So here's what I'm looking at for the wife:

98 GS500E
15k miles
needs a new battery and starter relay, it's $500.

Should I buy? No physical defects I can see.

K battery is 60$ average and starter relay maybe some one else can help I have never had to replace one. If you can fix things and it runs I think 500 is an ok deal but be prepared for the unexpected.

Definitely!  If the rest is in good shape and mileage is reasonable, after fixing, you could probably resell for $1400-1500, especially when summer rolls around.

If you are lucky..never count on a resale if you are going to ride it for a while. You will always lose money.
