Brother has a complete Honda Scrambler 350, new pistons and top end, but is having electrical issues (No SPark).....I offered him $250 for it?

Any good sites for this model?

Any thoughts on a Hybrid type cafe racer, a mixing of street fighter and cafe styling or something?

Thanks.

Do the 350s use the same frame as the 125s? I used to want a 125 really bad for riding around town. My wife is really into mopeds and I wouldn't have minded getting a really small motorcycle to go with. I thought I read somewhere that the physical dimensions of the 350 were pretty much the same as the 125 though. Would make a great little bike to play on. Go for it!

No spark.... Probably has a points/condenser ignition - that would be my first place to check assuming it has good plugs and wires.

Make sure the contact is clean (fine emery cloth or even a points file..) and get the gap right (matchbook thickness may be right...I know it was on my old Chevy..).

Can't be sure but  I poked a little just ...point gap should  allegedly be .012-.014" at the widest point
A bad condenser can drive you mad too..... Basically it keeps the points from arcing when the contacts open...helps protect the primary coil windings...

Fresh charged battery..fresh plugs, check the plug wires...

$250 is a heckuva score.

Check out www.dotheton.com. We are fanatics about stuff like this over there.

Thanks Big Rich, I just checked out that site, mainly just the BOTM Pics, and I gotta say that there are some really high end/creative/very special looking bikes on that site....Perhaps out of my ability and pocket book range, but maybe not if I go long term with the project...Still haven't totally decided to buy it from him, just made an offer to see if he'd bite.

One thing I will say is that while I like the low slung clip ons, realize they are period correct for what the bikes looks are going for, I'm all done being bent over, way to many years on a variety of GSXR's to wanna go back on a torture rack.

Definitely cool for a long term project. Pull the whole electrical system apart and just start fresh. My wife brought me home a moped last summer. It was fun cleaning it up super will but it still doesn't run well, I think it has electrical problems too. I'll get it sorted someday.

Someday I'd like to get a super long term project. Just take my time working on it, rainy days and what not. Just browse ebay and pick up spare parts when they go cheap. I think I'd be up for it someday if I could find an old slingshot gsxr750. I could hang it from the ceiling  and not have to rush through anything.

Good luck with it!

Hey man check out customfighters.com,they have a good section for cafe fighters, lots of good info on that site.. I want to build a cafe bike soon!! maybe a late 70s GS or CB..

Actually, clip ons aren't really "period correct" for cafe bikes from the 60's. Some guys made them, but most just put on some drag bars. But that's beside the point.

What year is that 350? The 68 and 69's have the type 1 motors that are very desirable. And you said it's a scrambler - guessing it's a CL350. The pipes from a CB350 (and SL350 for that matter) will bolt right up. If the current CL pipes are in good shape, they can be sold for up to $150.

One of the best ways to get rid of the points / condesor setup is with an electronic ignition. Probably around $150, but it's a "set it and forget" deal.

I use sohc4.net, for 4cyl. but has links to other great vintage Honda sites.

Here's some pics of my 350 before the bump seat and before the accident, not a twin though!

Oh, and the Tommaselli's are hot shiat!

The biggest issue with barn-find 350's is usually the points right after a carb cleaning. The cure is to find an electronic ignition and toss the points. Hard to find a set for the twins, though. Dynatek makes a great ignition.
