Just do it. There are several being parted out over on the gixxer forums, I'll snoop around and see what I can come up with.

Try dropping down to 4 Oreos and set your pilot screw 3 turns out.

Will this work? Well pretty much anything can work, but it's a matter of how much work you are ready to put into it... Something a swap can be easy, and sometime you have to work to make it work... Never heard of a 98 GSXR swingarm swap. So maybe it will fit with only spacer, but maybe not. If not, then maybe you will have to cut the frame, welde and so on.

There's a guy with a '97 750, says he'll take 50 for the swingarm. I'd give you a link but classifieds are no good unless you are a premium member. He is located in manchester, CT. Would you like contact info?

im already bidding on one on ebay, and buying forks on friday or saturday, im not worried about that, what im worried about is it costing alot more than an 18 year old can handle, im a full time student, and work 25-30 hours a week at minimum wage, my car eats up gas, and i have medical bills, so i dont wanna buy this stuff then be totally screwed if it costs alot, cause i eventually wanna save up and buy a an earlier model gsxr

redhenracing2

I feel ya, I just turned 19 myself. No studentry, just scrambling around for work to pay rent. I don't have to worry about a car though, insurance on my '90 model civic shot up to 300 a month so I only have two wheels left.

you know its going to start getting cold and maybe snowing, depending where you live that is... haha

slowfighter

why would you bid on anything if you havnt researched about it?? If your that concerned about it costing too much, just swap a 4.5" gsxr, katana, bandit rear rim and a 160 tire on there..

It seems if you want a GSXR, then save up for a GSXR. You're not going to turn a GS500 into a GSXR. It will be somewhere in between, cost a lot of time and money and it will ride neither like a GS500 nor a GSXR. You have so much going on that you may be getting in over your head and end up with nothing to ride for quite some time. If you had 2 bikes - then by all means use one for daily use and the other to experiment on.

Do some less expensive things and give yourself one really hot GS500. I've had guys with liter (litre if your non-US) bikes go ga-ga over my GS500. I've met lots of people with GSXR's and other bikes who all have fond memories of their GS500 and many wish they kept them.

Do the exhaust, air filter and jetting. Then do some cosmetics. Add sliders, engine bars, change the lights, add a belly pan. Go to the wall of fame and look at the before and after pictures of Junior. (I'm loaded with left over parts except for engine parts) Runs really fantastic now. Fortunately, he was a Canadian so the jetting was different than in the US so the new exhaust and air filter really made him have more power without needing to rejet. My dealer tuned him up and said Junior is one of the finest GS500's they've ever seen. (And Junior is a '92.)

Anyway, that's just my humble opinion.

im going to save up for another bike, probably a gsxr, but for the time being i just wanted to buy front and rear end to put these wheels and tires on my gs, im not looking to spend alot, i know people who can weld and do body work, so other than a few little things i might need, i will be getting a complete front and rear end

Jim Knopf

servus,

its not so easy to take the swingarm from the GSXR in the GS.

You need 213 mm in front of the swingarm and the gsxr swingarm have 228 mm.

The Axlebolt is 25 mm and you need 17 mm.

Good luck

But why don't you just put a bandit 12 swingarm with a bandit 12 rim with a 180 tire? More easy and price could be cheaper  :icon_question:

Do you have the normal unbraced 600 swingarm or is it the braced 750 swingarm? If it's the braced version I understand the desire, if it's the normal swingarm I would just try to sell the wheel and look for a bandit wheel instead. You'll get pretty much the same look without the massive project of shaving down the swingarm. If you know people who weld maybe you can buy some square tubing and have them weld up a brace for the GS swingarm so it looks like the gsxr swingarm. Just an idea.

I love projects, I just don't want to see you get in over your head.

I never did the Gixxer FE swap, to me it's over kill and purely aesthetic....Once completed, your still going to have a GS, albeit a cool looking one, with a FE that can far out do the bike, and probably you abilities.
Have you learned the lessons only of those who admired you, and were tender with you, and stood aside for you? Have you not learned great lessons from those who braced themselves against you, and disputed passage with you?

unbraced 600, if i have to ill just sell the parts i buy, im getting them very cheap, and can probably make a profit, if i see im getting in over my head, that will be my last resort, i know a welder, and i have a friend who works at a honda moto dealer, who knows a good bit os stuff about bikes, he cleaned and synced my carbs and help me with other things for my bike and my dads bikes, im doing this for a learning experience, and for personal acheivment, i will eventually buy another bike, prices will be down since winter is coming, so if i can save enough up i will have 2 nice bikes :)

tt_four

I know a gsxr front end is overkill but a set of usd forks is the sweetest looking thing you can put on a bike. If I was keeping the gs long term I'd consider putting one on.

redhenracing2

The one I was talking about is a braced 750, but it doesnt look as cool as the one on my bike. Look for one from a '94 or '95 750, they are the the badassest. And then you could do a wheel swap for a 190 rear  :woohoo:

Also worth noting is that these superbad blue anodized forks only came in '94, so if you wanna matching f.e. . . . .  .

Oh man I want one of those old gsxrs someday! At some point I'll find an old beat up one for $500 and I'm gonna grab it for a long term project. Streetfighters out of slingshot gsxrs never look outdated.
