I don't know what it is, but they're downright gorgeous. That's one of the bike designs that looks so good it barely ever needs to change for decades and it still looks good. I used to want one of those really bad. If I was ever thinking about buying something to use as a cruiser, I think it would definitely be one of those. I know they're not cruisers, but you could still make one pretty comfortable and still have an amazing bike.

The Buddha

Oh yea, the old zephyr too IMHO gorgeous.
Cool.

Torque is LBs-FT Damn it.
Yeah that was me.    One of my rides

I had a trade offer for one of these back when I was getting rid of my CBR, but I went with the GS instead  :thumb:

Try dropping down to 4 Oreos and set your pilot screw 3 turns out.

I have that exact bike.  I ride it all the time.  The GS is the wife's bike.  I would NEVER NEVER EVER get rid of it.  It is a sweet wet dream!  I had the original eddy lawson GPZ1100 it was modeled after and the KZ750 that was in between that was the same.  They were all great bikes.

Caffeine

I know of one rotting away in a garage.   Less than 10,000 miles, near-perfect condition.   Owner lost interest in riding, but won't sell it.   And there have been many offers!
On those days when life is a little too much and nothing seems to be going right, I pause for a moment to ponder the wise last words of my grandfather:  "I wonder where the mother bear is?"

Sad, very sad. I hate to see anything go to waste.

I still can't figure out why Kawasaki stopped making them.  They couldn't keep them on the showroom and you can't find many used.  They probably could have charged 20% more and still sold them!

So, is the Z1000 supposed to be a reincarnation of these bikes? I never have figured that out.

There was an old Z1000. I think it branched out into both the current Z1000 as well as the ZRX. Obviously they don't make the ZRX anymore, but I don't think they're supposed to different years of the same bike. I think the ZRX was around until 2005, not sure if it made it any longer than that.

ZRX was made from 1999 to 2005.  1999-2001 they were 1100 then went to 1200's  They are all new technology made to look like the bikes of the early 80's.  The ZRX is best for drag racing.  There are some who have made 200+ mph bikes out of them and 200 Hp bikes out of them through many mods including turbo charging.

In the end they are a great bike.  I would recommend that if you want one buy it when you can actually find one for sale.

No way you have this exact bike? Picture would be nice? I have talked in several posts about the Zephir 550 1991? My friend bought it the same day I bought my GSE. He had it jetted and put a yoshimir pipe on it and to this day I have yet to hear a better sounding bike. I road it like a week after he had the mods done and wholly cripes 50 more cc's but the power difference was unbelievable! He laughed when I bought my GS500E and sold his a year later and I still have my GSE 20 years later :thumb:

there seems to be heaps for sale in Aus. Some claim to be made as late as 2008...

He says he Bought it in Oct 08. Doesn't mean it's an 08. Until recently - last month - there were two New CB900 Hornets (Honda 919 in the US) available in Lanecove. The end was 2007 for these. So the dealer has been sitting on them a lo-o-o-o-ong time. Two months ago a guy I know bought a Brand New Triumph Bonnie. Zero clicks. 2008. Been sitting in the dealer since then. Prob the same with this... sitting in the dealer for 12 months or more.

There is a dealer right down the street from me that has a GS500 with 1.2 miles on it. Last year of production was '08, wasn't it?

Nope. Mine was made in 09. The 2010 models are available - made in 2010. So the GS is/was still being made for this year at least.

Interesting, I thought they were done for. Here in the states, at least.

All depends what your country brings in.

Down in Oz we can no longer get the naked SV650 - but - it is/was still being made, just not brought into the country. Down here, if you want the naked 650 engine you've got to go the Gladius.

I think the days are numbered for the GS in its current form. Emissions controls are catching up to it. These days it's EFI or you're history. But with such a large sales volume for the model, Suzuki had better have something up their sleeve.
