If I were looking for a nice used GS500....I would pay maybe $2500 for an '04 IN NEAR PERFECT SHAPE.  One like yours, which is AFU.........is worthless, in my opinion.

Ask $2000......see if any idiots bite on that....you can always come down in price.  Be happy if you get $500.

Goats - not always needs just a rotor. I got away with rotor and stator and ~10 oil changes in 3-400 miles and a few gaskets for the pan and stuff if I remember, see the bits of magnet get into oil and they make their way everywhere and can eat up the bearings. I was lucky. There are a couple especially goat himself who had to rebuild the motor. In a way luck plays a huge part, cos I must have had the worst case, magnets and stator were all shredded, literally it fell out in a big pile ... but I didn't need to rebuild.
So yea 500 if you're lucky. Of course only in this forum "goats" is well known. Dont go blabbing about it to the clowns that call you about it. Just tell em it needs a battery or something.

Ouch. Needs new battery or something?

That would be lying for money. Trying to make him into a politician? Or into a car salesman?

I know of atleast 1 guy who did that. I am not saying he should do it. I wouldn't sell a bike with goats, so I would definetly not do it. But getting the most $ you should not mention goats. But I'd say trivialising it is just as bad (by saying it needs a alternator), so I'd just go all the way.
The same thing actually happens to a savage in a way. Its starter clutch teeth break off when it backfires - same problem nearly as the GS, I've bought a few that were that way. And so many people try to tell people it just needs some carb work or something. If a bike doesn't run, I assume the worst really nowadays.

doesn't run = yep i 'm with you there

guy bought a yamaha dirt bike, seller says it "just needs a rod". how good does that sound ? well, yes, it just needed a rod, and crank, and top end, and left case, and rear wheel bearings, and head bearings, and forks, and tires, brakes, gas, oil, seat, grips, clutch cable.... but a STEAL for $300, right ?

not really.

The Buddha

Yup, a 200 buck bike needing 300 in parts and not even counting time and leg work nt to mention labor and scouring the forums for repair ideas. Steal alright.

I also love it when fools say "Just in front of the $".

Its just 5 grand.

Another beauty - is we are moving so this is "Priced to move"

Yea its priced to move right along with you.

Anyway, all I'm saying is - I have no idea. Goats even in the best case is not trivial. If you're making it trivial by saying it needs alternator, just go all the way and say its fine just needs battery.
