Hello guys!

I'm doing some trouble shooting, and I want to know, if you have the bike idling and you tamper with the TPS, does the idle speed change? (I didn't tried it in gear, and now I have the carbs at the bench so I can't try that out)

I would expect that it would change the ignition timing a bit, but it seems that on my bike, it does nothing. The TPS resistance checks well, so either Suzi has it for decorative purposes (+ the valve lift control) or something else is shoot on my bike.

Thanks!

Hey - no fair! SUZI is the name of my 2009 GS500F. She even has a personalized license plate!

09? Ok, just go do the test and I will edit the name in my post!  :D

Also get a pic of the plate and post it!

See? This is a REAL Suzi!
"do the test"? WTF? What test?

birdhandler

why would it vary when idling as the throttle postion is the same
the haynes manual says the TPS's resistance changes from 3.5 to 6.5k ohms page 4.6
Cheers

Well it is supposed to change the timing a bit.

In bikes without a TPS timing is adjusted according to rpms. With the TPS you add one more variable, throttle plate opening.

By setting the TPS to a position making the ecu think the throttle is a bit more open than it is, it advances the timing and supposely helps alleviate some off-idle hesitation/abrupt throttle.

(You could search for FZ1 TPS dynamic adjustment, those guys do it with a raised idle to 3800, adjust the TPS to get maximum rpm, and then reset idle - on my bike the TPS didn't change the rpm)

adidasguy.. wow!!!
I haven't seen Suzi :icon_twisted: that clean for ages!!

I like what you have done with the exhaust! Also the plate ROCKS!!  :thumb:

Are those helmet locks on the fender?

SW Motec universal carrier with a flat rack for a soft bag. You can get plates for other types of hard cases.

Photo taken before the crash sliders were put on.

And yes - Those are helmet locks on the license plate. The ones under the seat are just too impractical.

Are helmet locks safe? Here they would just cut the strap and steal the helmet..  :dunno_black:

Which then makes the helmet useless. BUT, if you get back to your bike and find your helmet gone, what you gonna do? Go buy another helmet, right? At which point, the Thieves now know they have 20 minutes to nick off with your bike.

I carry mine with me. Even if it isn't cut, someone could pour something in it or damage it in another way. It's part of my Personal Protective Equipment, stuff if I'll leave it for the general public to abuse it in some way. Plus, it makes a good self defense weapon if needed.  :thumb:

It's why I own a couple of sh1tty helmets to wear when I know I'm just going into town and will leaving it on the bike.

I rarely use the helmet locks. If ever, it might be at the gym during the day or at the beach parked next to a bunch of other bikes that have helmets sitting around. Never any place for the night. Maybe used the lock 5 times. Easier to keep it with me. Don't need a head bucket full of rain.

Went to the mall with a friend once he left his on the bike and we came back with a helmet full of pee  :o

I use it if I'm Dr office hoping. I slap it on the bike cause I'm riding usally about an 1/8 of a mile by the time I gear up I'd have already been there!
