Electrical Problems Following Low Speed Introduction to Asphalt

I brought my bad flasher into my Automotive Electronics class last night to show my instructor (teaching university students is a side job, he works for PACCAR as an Electronics Engineering Manager). He took it apart, then passed it around the classroom (stinking it up with the smell of fried electronics in the process) to show everyone an example of a bad failure mode. He told me that I was lucky the bike didn't burn up, and I'm inclined to believe him. Here are pics for anyone who is interested:
