Hi Jay. I'll have to try and get down there to meet you all. I regularly ride to Matlock Bath/Matlock for pleasure at the weekends - it's only around 30 miles from where I live. :thumb:

This is my final (or penultimate) post on this matter as I think I've just about done it to death! Rode to work and back today (only about 15 miles round trip) with lots of stop/start traffic and a fast (70mph) stretch. I am pleased to report that the bike is performing as well as when I first got it at 4,500 miles 3 years ago!  :woohoo:

The culprit would definitely appear to have been a worn out clutch basket (I haven't inserted 'me new rubbers into the rear wheel yet - I wonder who's going to comment on that one :D!). It was definitely a problem with the spring damper mechanism that dampens the movement between the clutch basket and the primary driven ring gear attached to it. I'm gonna drill out the rivets and have a good look to see if there is any obvious wear in the mechanism (I'll post pics if I find anything). If you decide to get a used clutch basket at any time in the future, just bear in mind that the damping mechanism could be tired and not worth the trouble of tearing down and rebuilding the clutch with such a part.
