Okay, here's the deal. I found a 1997 katana front forks (basically the whole front end) and complete rear tire setup for a $100.00. The tires only have 500 miles on them. I have an extra gs stem and lower clamp, I would like someone to either press in the katana stem, modify or make one. I figured I would see if anyone here can do it, before I go to a shop. I am getting ready to have ear surgery and figured I could be getting this done since I won't be able to ride.  I looked at the wiki page for upgrading the front forks and it looks like I might need spacers as well.  If someone can do this please let me know and give me a price.

you can file the katana stem down and use a spacer, I have done one that way, but the steering lock wont work.  I bought a buddha modified triple, and then it all worked great.  he is no longer modifying them though

I have a sneaking suspicion a 97 kat if you put the GS stem in it will not work right cos its upper triple and the stem's thread boss is rather different from the GS.

The kat 89-95 stem (stem ... not triples just the stem) is nearly a copy of the GS stem except its ~3/4 inch longer and the upper thread boss OD is 2mm larger. 96 and 97 were bastage years for the kat when too many htings changed, seemingly @ random. 98 and later all the way to 04 or even later it has stayed the same.

Cool.
