Hello all,

Just picked up my first GS500 this afternoon.  Wife (9+months pregnant) and I drove up to Bellingham to grab the bike.  Runs great and looks pretty good.  Paint has been sprayed on just about every surface and actually looks great.  I tried to scrap with my fingernail and couldn't get it to delam.  Somebody spent a lot of time working on this little guy.  I won't be able to tell until I get the tank off, but I think even the frame was painted as I can see some black paint up under the tank on one side with a nice tape line.....

Supposedly a rebuild 5000 miles ago, but no paperwork.  Going to be checking valve clearances soon.  Here are some pics for tonight.  I'll take a bunch more tomorrow and we can play "find the missing part"! :icon_lol:

No laughing at the wife!  And no that's not a helmet under her shirt!

Missing passenger grab handle.
Bring him over this weekend. Love to see him. I've got extra handles and other parts you might need.
Look sweet! Glad you got him or I would have.
Have you given him a name?

PS: Also seems to be missing front and rear side reflectors.

Thanks!

adidasguy - I'll shoot you a message this weekend.  I might be doing a bit of carb work on another bike on Saturday, but could make a trip north.  I'd love to pic your brain, and your parts bin.

I never really considered myself to be "north". You makethat 2 miles sound like so far away.
But at least you're not "White Center"  :D

So true!

Have you ridden the roads south of WC along the water?  There are some amazing cruising speed turns back there.  I have a little circuit that I do from my house south to Des Moines and back.

You might recognize this, north of Des Moines (Three Tree Point)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njVqSIOsTjc

Or maybe this south if Des Moines (SW Dash Point Rd)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyfDrfhvItE

A couple of my "after dinner rides"  :woohoo:

You nailed both of my spots!  Three tree point is a nice ride.  I like the section north of the beach.

Welcome :)

Usually guys sell their bikes when they are about to have a kid. Your wife actually came with you to GET ONE when she is 9 months preg....

KlaXon

Ooooh. I use to ride down to dash point a lot when we lived in WC about 15 years ago. After moving to Renton I did a lot of cruising up the Maple Valley HW.

adidasguy - how do you know it's a 'him' and not a 'her'?

scottychop

Good question!  We'll see how many problems it gives me about staying out late, sleeping in, doing chores....... :woohoo:

The Buddha

Oh wow, 9 mo pregnant huh ... well we drove 400 miles 1 way with a 3 month old baby to get a gs.

Better go for a ride now because you might not be able to for the next 2+ years.  :D

Ha!  You might be right.  In the mean time I can hang out here and live vicariously.  I managed to snap a few photos this morning of missing parts and/or questions I have about things.

1.  I'm pretty sure this is not the stock can?  The mid-pipe interferes with the rear brake and I am not able to use it.  Oh, and it's a 150 tire?!

2.  Missing seat lock

3.  What indicator light goes in the hole?

4. For Klaxon: rear light/tailsection.  Here's a pic:

centuryghost

Definitely not stock can. SV650?

And you are missing the elusive blue high beam indicator light!
