Found this on the twisted throttle website...

sound energy doubles for every 3 points you go up in the decibel scale. It means that the Stebel Nautilus horn, which produces 139 dB of sound, puts out a LOT more sound than these popular horns:
- 800% of the sound energy of the more expensive 130dB FIAMM Freeway Blaster;
- 600% louder than the $140, 130 dB Pro Pad Mini Beast horn;
- 650% louder than the $179, 128dB Rivco dual trumpet horn.

So I had some free time today and installed the nautilus.  First thing's first...I saw absolutely no way to mount it in the stock location.  It was either too close (or touching) the engine, or hitting the fairing when the fairing was installed.

I looked all over the bike for potential mounting places, and settled on the pictured spot.  It's something like 12"(?) higher than the stock location (so no problem with wire length), using one of the fairing brackets plus the stock horn bracket bent slightly back (pics illustrate this better than I can describe).  No fabrication required, just two 1/4" washers and some elbow grease.

The good part about this particular location is it's up high, and completely encased in fairing, so little if any water will get in there.  Not even close to touching plastic...about 3/4" berth at the closest spot.  Directions say mount no more than 15 degrees from vertical...I didn't take out my protractor, but it seems close enough.

Definitely much louder than stock.  Hurts the ears if you really lay on it.  Is it the freight train from hell I was expecting?  Not quite, but I think this thing is as loud as one can reasonably expect to get without fabrication/modification/expense.  And I think it's more than loud enough to get drivers' attention.

BTW:  Get the wiring harness for $20.  In my opinion, you're gonna be paying $5-$10 for wire and fittings, plus the time and frustration of wiring it up.  Harness makes it plug and play.  Simple.

Good day to you!

I replaced the stock horn with a Wolo much like Pelican, however I just bent the stock horn bracket backwards at a 90 degree angle.  I mounted the relay on the upper fairing bracket.  It is MUCH louder!  I wired it directly to the battery using a fuse holder I purchased from the local auto parts store.  Even when wired directly to the battery the horn button will not work unless the ignition switch is turned to the ON position.

It doesn't hit the fairing/get too close to the engine in this position?  Looks like the Wolo might be oriented a bit different from the nautilus (thought they were the same horn).
Good day to you!

It has good clearance all around and using the stock mounting bracket the unit is very solid and secure.  The trumpet opening of the horn also lines up with the side vent in the fairing.

which are they?

Hey, the Nautilus seems reasonably water resistant.  Still had the fairings off from installing it, got caught in the rain.  Still worked fine.  Parked, bike got rained on intermittently throughout the day  :icon_neutral:...still works.
Good day to you!
