Well, it looks like I'm not ever going to revert my GS500 to street duty, so it makes sense to start selling off some of the street parts. With that said...

I have a complete set of 'Deep Purple Metallic' bodywork for a 1993 GS500. Set includes the front fender, tank, left and right tail section, and grab handle. Fender is dusty, with a little grime on the underside, but otherwise the bodywork is pristine. Bike was stored inside, and had 4000 miles on the odometer when I converted it for track duty. Bike had 1 owner, and was stored indoors.

As best I can recall, there's not a scratch on the bodywork. The paint is like new, and still shimmers. There is no rust on the tank. I did not notice any spider-web scratches or swirl marks from careless washing.

I can attach photos if anyone expresses real interest, but right now the bodywork is bubble wrapped and stored away for safe keeping.

Attached is a picture from someone else's GS500, to visualize what the bodywork looks like installed.

I have a bunch of other street parts available, including a matching ignition / gas / seat lock set, signals, mirrors, stands, headlight, etc.

Asking $500 for the full set, but willing to entertain offers. Go ahead, I won't be offended. :)

What do you want for the left tail piece?  Shipped to 55128, thanks.

Might be interesting for Trey to go purple for a while while I decide how to repaint that Ducati yellow tank to be more GS style.

To answer a few questions in public:

When I put the tank away, there was absolutely no rust inside or out.  It's been more than a year since I looked at the tank, so I'd need to inspect it once more to be sure. With that said, it's been stored properly (sealed, cap installed, bubble wrapped and boxed,) so I'm not expecting any surprises. There is no after-market coating on the interior of the tank - it's clean, bare metal.

I forgot to mention that the bodywork also includes the centre piece of the tail. The bodywork was off of a stock running bike. I have pretty much all the parts.

Hi mike__R, Thanks for the interest. I'd rather keep it as a set, but I will contact you if that changes.

Mike_R:
I'll check my stock of tails in my tail farm. There could be a single of what you need. Usually I try to keep them as pairs.
What is wrong with your piece? I've become pretty good at repairing and touching up damaged tail sections. Send me a photo of it and I'll let you know if anything can be done.

By the way, I hate to see sets broken up unless it is damaged. Complete sets are too hard to find.

Is this what you need?

The one I have got rashed pretty bad - it isn't cracked or anything but ground down and I'm worried that when I go to paint it the damage will show. (I'm not specifically looking for purple as I'm planning to paint anyway).

When you repair yours how would you handle something like that?  I already tried sanding it smooth and hitting it with some primer and that helped, but I still don't think that it looks right.

Mike_R: Busting up a good set just to paint one? That is , well, DUH and INSANE!

I've got lots of singles and ones I've used for testing paint. Plenty to lightly sand and paint. Even a matched pair from the year they had red and got sun bleached - so needs painting.

Anyone going to paint perfectly good tails, take a happy pill then contact me for ones to paint so my tail farm can stock good sets for those that want originals. We can swap or work something out.

Hey Burning - tank OK so I can pay you and you can ship them?

SO... before anyone else thinks of doing something insane like painting perfectly good sets, I have this one (brand new, too) and need the other side to complete the set:

Sorry, was my SO's birthday last night, so I haven't had a chance to look. :)

I'll try to head over there, either for lunch today or later this evening. :)

I didn't realize there was a premium on sets.  Yeah I'm only really interested in the left rear for an "E", I'm going to paint, so if you have anything in your tail farm I might be interested.

I pulled the parts out of storage. I think everything could use a proper cleaning, but the paint is as good as I remember it.

Seems a few spots of surface rust have developed inside the tank while it was in storage. I don't know much about cleaning rust, but it looks quite light, and shouldn't be difficult to take off. I'll try to post some pictures this evening.

Mike: anything in the tail farm? that's an understatement. I guess you haven't seen this photo of just SOME of the good sets (the "painters" are in boxes)

Touch up paint of the factory color and a clear coat can do wonders. But I still have a bunch that need painting. Too bad that red set I have is all faded from being out in the sun. Otherwise, a perfect set.
