so i was on the way home on my GS, when out of the corner of my eye i see a vehicle behind me aggressively changing lanes and coming up behind me.. i use signal and change to the slow lane.. it follows me.. now im stuck with a raging driver behind me.. i switch lanes again, and same thing. its right behind me! i barely tap my brake to see if they respond. nothing, if anything they speed up. i cant slow down and get outta the way.. my only option is to zig between 2 cars.. i squeeeeze between and think im free. so i speed up.. (posted limit is 40, im at about 60 now) all is clear ahead, so i take a glance back. the same gap i squeezed through (maybe a foot front and back bigger than my bike) the truck has now made it through, and is hauling it down towards me. im legitimately freaking out so i get in the middle divider lane (turn lane) and pull a 180*  after slowing considerably. a few seconds later im climbing past 60 looking for a familiar road. the truck has done a U and is about 200yds back.. its WFO now and im a touch past 90. (yes its still 40, coming up on a 30mph zone) at this point im hoping i blow past a cop so he can figure things out. meanwhile the truck is somehow gaining and is now about 50 yrds back. they make a move like they are gonna pass me, and i use that to eat brake hard. they go flying past and hit the brakes. we are now separated by about 100 ft. coming to a red light. the truck is still in front, and im stopped wayy back flicking my brake light.

they make a right onto the cross street  and stop. im still way back, watching. the light turns green and im WFO again and headed to hide. the truck makes a smokey U and thats when i vanish over the hill and take a quick left back behind the (irony? MUCH?) Yamaha/suzuki dealer, near a tire store?
i shut the bike down, and pull out the phone >>>911<<<< i give the descript and tag and last known direction.

in the matter of those 5 min of sitting and adrenaline rush, !2! cops drive by. i couldnt get their attn.

phone call ends, and i continue home, (going the opposite way they were last going)

im still amazed at what all happened. i dont get what i did. or how that truck was able to keep up.. wasnt a ford lightning or anything special.
what else could have i done? i was fearing for my life trying to get away. thank goodness it wasnt a couple a day later cause im scheduled to get my Concealed Carry.

were my actions justifyable?

*edit* sorry if its a bit jumbled or not gramatically correct in some spots. my hands are still shaking

Man, you really pissed someone off!  >:(

Glad you were able to get out of that situation unscathed. You should definitely watch your backside for awhile!

Something like this happened to me once, but I was in my car.  Some asshat decided to use the shoulder as a passing lane, but I got into the right hand lane before him (I was in the left lane).  He decided to tail me and then swerved at me like three or four times.  I slammed my brakes like you, but he kept driving and positioned his truck between both lanes and stepped out of his truck.  He also pulled his dog out.  I immediately called the Police and while I was doing so raised my phone, so he would leave me alone.  He left and the cops were called.  I never found out if they caught him.  Probably not.

You don't happen to live in MD, do you? lol

Glad to hear that you're okay.  There's some really messed up people in this world.

has happened to me twice, some lady tried to run me off the street for cutting in front of her  sadly, only politicians and celebs get concealed carry permits here in L.A. or I'd be carrying my sig daily  :woohoo:

That really sucks man. They could've been pissed off/having a bad day, or the unforunate truth is it could've been been somebody who was bored and wanted to screw with you which I've had happen more than once.

Next time you hear someone say this...

I've personally just never understood the desire to have a bike that you can only use 50% (some supersports are more like 20%) of its capabilities without coming to a trooper's official attention.  :dunno_black:

you can explain why. Sadly enough even a decent truck will keep up with a GS in a straight line and would definitely have a higher top speed so you've gotta get creative.

the super sucky thing is, im waiting for tires and brakes. sureee woulda been nice to have rear brakes and fresh, non squared off tires too.

ill keep everyone in the know on if i get a call back .. i told the 911 operator that i was fearing for my life and was excessively speeding trying to get away... she didnt seem to care  about the speed

I second that, You were very lucky to get away from them. If there were doling that in the truck, what would they have done if they had got OUT of the truck.. *shudder*.

Hope the police catch the guy, hope it dont happen to ya again.

You did the right thing.  Get away.  Get away from a bad situation.  Utilize your agility and small size to get away.

A girl on another forum rode INTO a grocery store to get away from a guy in a pickup truck, and layed on the horn to get everyone's attention.  Best thing to do is get to a populated area so there will hopefully be willing witnesses.

Yet another pissed off cage!

Man that little GS can out manuver a truck any day. I've had to make rapid lane changes and damn near lock the brakes up to get a few to fly by me so I could haul the opposite direction and hit a side street or 2.

Also, have an alternate route home.

above is the 2.3ish  (my bike showed 3.2) miles of terror. i first noticed the truck at point A and made the first evasive move. everything was calm til point B. (first red light where they kept trying to push me out into the intersection) now heading on to point C i started to realize this was gonna get nasty. i made a few zig zags between traffic.. one instance i had 8 inches or less to spare on my back wheel (but at my acceleration level it quickly turned into feet). Point C is also a red light. i saw red and started to slow, tapping my brake to make the taillight flash/pulse. they got so close all i could see was the small edges of my shoulder and the grill.. a few hurried prayers later the light turned green, and i hit it. up ahead tho were about 5 cars in each lane. in between C and D is where i managed to pass all 10 or so cars tightly grouped. from D to E i honestly did not look back. the road was entirely empty and i had it WFO at about 110 or so i figured i would be able to lose the guy and make a right at an upcoming red light. at some point between E and F he had already caught back up and was laying on the horn and  :flipoff: and swerving /occupying both lanes. between F and G i made the first U-turn. i was in the fast lane, and he had just moved back to the slow lane to try and pass/side swipe me... i pushed hard on the left bar and grabbed the front brake with all i had.. (it was a controlled squeeze lol) in doing the U i thought i would go back to the gas station at point F. as i was about to move into the turn lane, the truck was back behind me and was boxing me out. i had to slow to make it, and slowing woulda put me on a direct impact course for the truck. i had to make another U in order to get home. from H to I i was able to fake him out one last time, and finally put him in front of me. thankfully there was no traffic coming from behind, because we were both crawling along at maybe 15 -20 mph... the light ahead was green, but soon was red. i guess they thought i would follow them as they turned right at point K.. but i figured id better stay back. i was stopped at point J. i wasnt really watching the truck that much, only out of the corner of my eye... i had the engine rev'd and ready for one hell of a clutch dump. i think a passenger may have rolled the window down, but i wasnt sure. i was just looking for weapons/ listening for gunshots. the light went green and i was gone. 1st 9.5k clutch in, snag 2nd, on to 3rd. finally 4th comes ready and i grab it. i see my chance to escape, they are doing a smokey burnout/trying to get turned around and  vanish over the back side of a small incline. i veeeer left, scrapping my knee in the process  :woohoo:.  point L is the road, (which is where the yamaha/suzuki dealer is located. (ironic.... yes i think so) i continue to point M (thankfully ppl were out/plenty of cars to hide behind) i pop it in neutral, kickstand down, pull my phone out, and start dialing... about  8 min later my brain is fried, and the operator says thanks and goodbye.

with the bike still running and my phone call ended. i just sit down on the parking curb, trying to catch my breath and chill out.

needless to say i made it home alright.

about the alternate route home: just a few feet after point F is Oak Rd. i couldve made it home via that road. but its a twisty/windy/un-populated road. staying on a surface street was the smartest option at the time.

and out running a truck on pretty much straight roads is kinda not that easy. especially with the tiny amount of traffic at 830 pm or so. my ram 1500 with the small 4.7 v8, auto and 20in rims and heavy tires will easily hit 120 given the room..

**edit** i hope the link works. i copied and pasted it to double check and it worked for me...

thanks for the support! just thought it would be a better read with a map to follow the action

Wow!   :o  I know where that is.

Nutcase in the truck probably thought you were someone else.

Good thing you have the 911 call on file.  Next time you are in that area, probably SHOULD carry the weapon.

There was a similar instance here in Fresno last season. Here, its legal to lane split. Riders know it, cops know it, but some drivers don't. A kind, well-mannered pickup driver very similar to your specimen was angered at a lane-spitting rider. Witnesses say the rider didn't notice the truck driving after him until they were hit from behind and went down. If I remember correctly, the driver literally ran the rider over, killing him.

Of course, few people would have been informed had the rider not been an off-duty cop. The story ran for three days, with the description of the vehicle everywhere. Unfortunately, there were no plates reported, just "a White Toyota Tacoma." I don't believe the driver was ever caught.

I'm glad you got away. It's a shame that people can act such a way.

When you feel your life is in danger, ALL bets (road rules) are off. Ride through a park with bollards to stop cars, ride on the footpath/sidewalk, run red lights, go up the wrong way on an On Ramp - you get the idea. What you did worked good.

When I had a crazy guy in a pickup come lurching at me, headlights flashing, screaming at me, head out the window and all, I lane split for half a mile, got ahead out of sight, turned off and rode through a series of suburban roads so even if he somehow saw me turn off, his line of sight was gone after that. Took me an extra 10 minutes to get to work. Normally only takes 20 minutes.

Pays to know the streets of the areas you ride through, not just at the beginning and end of your trip.

^^^^i know i could have turned off the main street. but being that my tires are about gone, along with my back brakes i didnt wanna go tearing off some side street and end up in a ditch, or wrapped around a tree.. at the time i thought traffic was going to be my best defense at loosing the ford.

sure i couldve turned at just about every red light but that wouldve put me away from the public/large groups of ppl.
i would post my location but this is the internets lol.. there were about 40 different ways i could get to my house from any one of those points on the map  :thumb:

if only i woulda had my bluetooth on me. i coulda dialed the call while moving, and probably seen some first hand ownage ?

You should probably not wear the clothing you were wearing that day.... and maybe even change the color of your bike. I know that doesn't sound like the macho thing to do... but sometimes it is better to be alive and less macho than .....dead. They might have mistaken for you for somebody else matching the description.....could have been a driver-by/hit attempt.  :2guns:

Did the truck look like this  :D.  Glad you made it out safely.
