Choke snapped off!!! What to do?

Finally got some time to work on my GS today.  What I thought was an intake leak might possibly have been loose exhaust bolts, AND this hack job on the choke mount.  Looks like the PO safety wired it together.  Any ideas on how to fix this damn thing without buying new carbs???





Also, check out the bodge job on the SV650 rear can.  Got a Sito muffler going on when I can find a new header.  I hate this style mechanics.....

With the choke bracket still 1/2 in place the safty wire looks to be enought to hold it in place, was your running issues choke related??  I know it looks 1/2 arse but if it works why change out a carb!!

No it didn't work for beans.  The housing on the cable fouled the safety wire repeatedly.

I managed to change my choke cable last year by taking nothing apart other than the choke lever assembly from the handlebar.  It wasn't easy and took an hour but patience prevents damage!  Tools required:  screwdriver, long-nosed pliers, and a flashlight.  Looks like the P.O. is a real goon.

Hmmm, JB weld could work.  I actually have cable stops from when I used to build bicycles.  I'll have to check that option out.  Thanks.

You're missing the bit that keeps the cable housing in place when you apply choke, right?

Thinking about this like a bike cable is the right path. I'd silver-solder a washer to the cable housing to keep it from pulling in, and re-safety wire it down. I don't think putty epoxy will hold for long, but you never know.

Silver solder aluminuim alloy?? Use the right solders and fluxes and get the pretreatments right and its possible, but personaly I wouldnt want to be applying  600degC to my carbs........cant speak for others though  :thumb:
