My bike is a GS500f 2008. Pulled out the jets tonight and they say 130. I have a KN air filter and Vance and Hines full exhaust system. I bought the Dynajet Stage 1 kit (the only one for my bike offered by them currently) and it comes with 120 124 128 and 132 main jets. What's the actual main jet I should be running? And pilot for that matter... Seems like everyone on here is running 135'ish for their 500f's and 142.5 for the 500e's. I don't mind going and getting some different jets in the morning, but I need to get this thing running by tomorrow night, so all help is appreciated!

The wiki has a great table for jetting info with all kinds of intake/exhaust combos and might be a great place to start.

I found that before when I was searching for answer. It still doesn't make sense why that would say to go with a 142.5 main jet while the dynojet kit I got came with only a 132, and the kit says its for after market exhuast and kn drop in filters.

K slow down there pyrojoe.

DJ kit gives you a needle that is different from the stock needle, its thinner and more drastically tapered. The needle as it sits in the bike is in the emulsion tube and its an obstruction in the tube. The thinner needle = less obstruction. The main jet is at the bottom of the emulsion tube. To get more flow through a pipe you can 1 - have a bigger inlet or 2 - have a thinner obstruction. DJ seems to do both, and as such it can work. However you need to follow some logical steps and make good AND clear observations and adjust it one small step @ a time. Else you'd just confuse yourself silly. Tommorow night may be possible, or not. So here goes.

V&H and K&N - most likely you run the 132's and the needle on clip 2. Make a few runs and post back.

People using the numbers you have posted are running stock needles - and its 150 for the 89-00 and 147.5 for the 01+, so no idea where you got your numbers.

The pilot is a 20 if you want to start up better and warm up faster especially in the cold. However if you're going that far might as well drop the DJ crap, and for $25 I'll sell ya pilots, mains, washers and allen head bolts for your float bowl, swap em all and it is likely to be a 1 stop mod. Usually people never have to open it back up to rejet it. Just air screw and idle screw etc. Pilots alone would be $10 shipped in US from me and you can get em @ any decent bike dealer/store.

Cool.

Okay I got everything installed, and I'll go ahead and try your advice with the clip on #2 on the needle. I'm using the 132 main jets. I feel a huge difference over 6k rpm! But I'm having issues that I need to work out before I'm satisfied. Between 5k and 6k rpm, (mostly right at about 5700) the bike starts sputtering very badly. It does this if I'm all the way on the throttle; if I'm barely on the throttle I don't really notice it at all. Any ideas what this could be? The cheap way will be to move that clip back. The other thing I'm thinking is my mid jet needs to be swapped for a bigger/smaller one. I'm guessing I can take the tops of the carbs off to get to the needle without having to take the carb out again, which would be nice, so I'll do that when I get the chance next and post back up what I find. Thanks for the help! And I really wish I woulda known I coulda bought jets from you for $25 before I paid $90 for the DJ kit.

OMG!!!! I just got the sudden  urge to change the clips at midnight, and HOLY CRAP!!! I took it for a quick spin, got it up to 60 in 3rd, and feel no bogging down what so ever! At 6000 rpm, that thing takes off like some kind of turbo'd truck whose turbo just spooled up. It's crazy! Thanks for the help buddah!

Here's my specs for future reference:

KN Air Filter
Vance & Hines full exhuast

Dynojet Jet Kit
DJ-18 pilot jet
Stock 60 mid jet
DJ 132 main jet

Clip on 2 positions down from the top (there's 6 total and I'm on 2)
Stock washers

Okay, went and it took the bike out on the interstate just now. Red lined it through all the gears like the instructions say to. It still sputters but not as bad. I'd say from about 5700-6000 it sputters. Should I try the clip's on #1 position?
