I wonder whats involved with wiring this,  ignitor/ballast etc.   Its been ages since I've touched an HID kit, but I'm definitely interested.

I did a car HID kit from Delonix Radar, they are a Perth based company, really good service and great quality products.

But back to your post, Like all after market HID kits, it'd be illegal (in QLD anyway). Looks to be alright, and it'd be pretty simple install if its anything like the car kit i did not too long ago  :thumb:

I can't stand illegal HID retrofits. They NEVER function like an OEM set up.

Being a projector light, as long as its mounted correctly, it should work just fine.

The majority of the dodgey ones are the cheap kits people buy from china that dont have the correct shielding in place, which causes them to be like high beams all the time, and then they have their lights adjusted too high as well

Not really... who knows the quality of the projector itself, etc. Based on my experience with bixenon projectors, based on the component pictures(and the price), quality is not the number one focus here. If you dive deeper into the website, you'll see output pictures from the projector... they're atrocious.

Further, cheap ballasts and bulbs, while lighting up properly, rarely have the durability or life span of an oem set up.

I didnt really look into the website too much. but maybe have a look at these, more work, but you can get them in Aus and they look to be a bit better?

It is a car kit, but they may also do one for a motorcycle?

This. A co-worker of mine has a cheap made in China set up in his 89 Crapa-maro. Yea. 2005 Lighting in a car designed in 1981 is NOT a good idea. It just spits light everywhere, even though it has a "projector" on both sides. Another co-worker has stock housings and 8000k HIDs in his 1999 Honda Civic. No projectors. Nothing. Again, just throws light at everyones face.
When I am cruising in my car, I see at least 10 01-07 Silverados or 99-06 F250/F350 with HIDs and they just blind the shaZam! out of me cause they are not properly aimed and have no way of actually aiming the light. I HATE HID retrofits. I wish cops would start pulling people over for it, seeing as it is technically against Federal Law.

I will add to this conversation by saying:

DON'T fit a projector light to any bike... My main ride is a Triumph Tiger, which has projector units - superb light output BUT it's no use having such a definate cutoff as when you lean into a corner the road ahead suddenly disappears!  :o >:(

I'd be quite happy for my headlight to not function like an OEM setup if that meant it actually worked properly.  The single H4 7" round in my GS is garbage.  I'd really like to get some decent light onto the road without sacrificing the traditional naked bike look, I'm a bit of a purist for the big round headlight, I believe that's what a motorcycle should look like.

Do any of the retro looking nakeds have a light that works better?

I mean OEM HID set up good sir

I know, I was being a little facetious.   It doesn't change the fact that the stock GS500 light is pretty shithouse, so I'm hoping there's something, preferably legal, that I can do to that will actually improve my ability to see where I'm going without drastically altering the look of the bike.  I suppose I could keep the stock light and put a couple of little driving lights down below it on the fork legs, they'd sort of blend in where you'd expect a double horn setup to be if they were in nice tasteful chrome housings.

The harder problem to get around is that the bike leans, and in a corner the bars are actually angled away from the exit.  Really doesn't help you at night in an unfamilar corner when the radius deceptively decreases and you suddenly lose that white line you were aiming for.
