Strange QLD motorcycle licence rules

I have to admit some of the motorcycle laws are a bit weird. I just got my open motorcycle licence and I can -

1. Carry a pillion on a LAMS approved bike but not on a non LAMS until 12 months of having an open licence.

2. I can blow .05 on a LAMS bike but not on a non LAMS for 12 months.

3. I can accompany a learner on my LAMS approved bike but not on a non LAMS for.....yep you guessed it. 12 months.

I wonder if I can get booked for scratching my arse on my non LAMS approved bike  :police:

These apparent odd laws exist because of a couple of pre conditions...

1 - You may only instruct a rider for a class of bike if you have held a license for that class for at least 12 months.

2 - You may only carry a pillion on your bike if you have had a license for that Class of bike for at least 12 months.

As you had to do 12 months on a LAMS bike before getting your Unrestricted (open) license, automatically you now qualify for the 12 month thing for the LAMS Class of bike but not the Non-LAMS.

And what this means too is... if you upgrade and sell your LAMS bike, you can't take your hot-date for a ride. So, keep the LAMS bike for those occassions. I think everyone needs more than one bike anyway  :icon_mrgreen:

WooHoo Viva Arizona!  Get 20 correct out of 25 on the written.  Pass a simple "skills" test out in the parking lot.  (cornering, u-turn, braking, etc.) and you're golden!  :woohoo:

in queensland atm its

hold any sort of car licence for 12 months (yes even a learners)
answer 5 questions about random traffic crap (bike related) -> get bike learners
goto qride (Q-Ride is a competency-based training and assessment program, ride the witches hats, e-stop and ride on open street) -> get RE licence so now you can ride any bike with p/w of 150kw/tone (lams)

wait 12 months

goto qride (again same as above) get open licence

The Q ride courses are pretty good though. Well my instructors were awesome. We spent 7 hours in the saddle that day.

So you should hang onto your GS for when you want to have a couple of beers then bring a girl home from the pub, the rest of the time you can have an open class bike.  Yeah you're right, QLD's weird.
