I just bought my first bike, the 07 gs500f.  After one day of riding it, the bike does not start, turn on, anything.  I bring it to a friend of mine's shop he hooks it up and shows that the rectifier is bad on it.  He explains the whole system to me, so I'll spare all those details.  Now the bike is in the shop for about two weeks and I found out today that there is a national backorder on rectifiers and wont be able to get one until april 15th.  I dont know if I can go another two weeks without riding the bike, im so eager to ride and learn on it. :(

My question is:  has anyone ever heard of this happening on a part like this and is there anyway or anyone I could talk to about getting one before then?  I'm also pretty new to the forum so take it easy on me haha.

Big worldwide recall going on at the moment regarding the reg/rects on some suzuki models, GS5 is not on the list but it may be having a knock-on effect regarding the supply of spares.

Does it have to be OEM?..... Have you tried Electrosport??

You can replace yours with almost any other jap-bike rectifier you can find. I had a Honda VFR that had problems with regulators so I swapped it out with one from a Suzuki GSXR.  The pins might not match up, you might have to solder the wires together or use crimp connectors or something. But if you pick one up from another Suzuki bike the connector might be the same. The two bolt holes might not line up if you use one from a different bike, but I only used 1 bolt and it was fine for many thousands of miles before I sold the bike.

I replaced mine with one from a GSXR, had to swap connectors, as they are not the same. Works just fine.

Thanks for all the info and PM's on this topic.  Obviously I'm a n00b to the motorcycle world, but I'm trying to learn as much as I can as quickly as possible.  If yall have any links or info that would be helpful to a n00b like myself please feel free to share it with me concerning anything.

The rectifier on electrosport I assume will work on my stock 07 correct?  I'm probably going to order it from there.
