Hello all,

I am in the process of replacing my tach and speed backlights and status indicator lights, but I can't easily disconnect the green wiring connector to get at the enclosure for the dash.  I stopped for the day after giving it a dozen minutes.  I know there is a tab, and I pressed it in with a screwdriver, and i've tried prying the two ends apart with a wedge but the plastic bends more than moves.   The two connectors seem wedged tight - either the plastic shrunk since '97 or I'm doing something wrong.  Any suggestions?

Spray some dry lube into the connector from both sides and the center and try after a minute. That works for me. I like Dupont Teflon spray (sold at Home Depot) for stuff like this.

I was able to disconnect the connector with the help of a more experienced buddy.  Turns out that for each of the four pins going into the connector, there is a plastic tab inside that keeps each in place.  Those tabs can be depressed with a sturdy thin wire, alllowing you to pull out each pin seperately.  The pins were stuck after so many years of constant connection, and after I removed them the plastic connector enclosure came right off.

I applied some dielectric grease and electrical component cleaner spray as well.

Bulb -> LED indicator lights project is now complete, and I could not be happier with the result.

Thanks!
