Chain size for a 13T or 14T sprocket

Hey Gstwin,

I'm looking to upgrade my front sprocket, I don't highway ride much so high revs in 6th gear doesn't concern me...

I was thinking either a 13t or 14t sprocket for the front. What size chain should I look into? I didn't want to cut my stock chain if I can avoid it. Not feeling too confident in that area  :cookoo:

Is there a chain size that will be "plug-and-play" with a stock rear sprocket and a 14T or 13T?

Havn't decided yet to go for the 13 or 14 yet, but I will!

Thanks!

You can use the wiki and the chain length calculator to figure this out.  I believe dropping more than 1 tooth will require a shorter chain.

Looks like a stock chain is 110 links, and you'd need 109 links with a 13 tooth front sprocket (assuming stock in rear).

So technically, I can just buy aother 110 chain and take out a link?

Never done this before...

What do I need to know? Like what tools I need, what to look out for, and any other tips/advice

I've never bought a new chain, but I'm assuming you could buy a 109 tooth chain?

Looked in some places, can't find..

Spoke with someone at BikeBandit.... he said I needed a 520-104 if I'm going to a 13t with a 39T rear.

Can anyone confirm?

Must have an even number of links unless you have a special offset link.  Looks like a 108 link chain would work with 13/39T or 14/39T.  You could probably use your 110 link with the 14/39T.  Would just have less adjustment until you run out of slot in the swing arm as the chain wears.  I've saved the ones I've calculated already:

Thanks GSJack

I just ordered the sprocket online, having my dealer adjust the chain and put it on for me..

Saving me the hassle. Chain is in great condition so if I can save $50, I'll be happy.
