So my PO had new rear pads put on in april of this year... It always squeaked on the rear brake but it has been getting worse and worse lately. I was told to remove the pads and rotor and sand them down... Is this same or do i need to replace both?

Also the spring for the rear brake light was dangling on the rear brake lever... I am not 100% sure if the plastic piece that holds the spring is still there, but if not any recommendations on how to fix this?

Try this and see if it helps.

Put the bike on the center stand.

Remove the brake fluid reservoir cap.

Slowly press the brake pedal down a few times.

Replace the fluid reservoir cap and test.

I had replaced the pads on my GS and I didn't remove the fluid reservoir cap. When I pressed the piston back in the caliper, the fluid flowed back into the reservoir. The air trapped inside got compressed and caused my rear brake to drag enough to squeal.

remove the rear caliper. slide pads together and apply silicone to the back of pads where it meets the caliper cylinder. reassemble. the noise is from the pads vibrating, not from rubbing on the rotor, the silicone will kill the noise.
if a man has integrity, nothing else matters. if a man dosen't have integrity, nothing else matters.

I keep forgetting about this.I run HH pads and they don't require this step.Mine came with a little shim attached to the back of the pad to prevent squeal.
