GS500 Review Video - MUCH longer than first intended

I've tried a few times to do a Review Video of the GS500. But something always stifled the end result. Whether it was poor camera movement due to my homemade steadycam, poor camera angles, being disturbed by passing (gawking) cars, bad weather or working when weather was good, there was always something.

Yesterday, I managed to find a nice little spot at one of the carparks at our local University. I was pretty sure it'd be good what with no-one being around cause of Easter and I was right. So I shot and shot and shot. Sat down and did a LOT of editing. And ended up with the most thorough video look around and review of any motorcycle I've seen - apart from doing endless footage of wheelies and zooming around a track and the like. I'm pretty sure I cover about everything a person curious about a GS500 would want to know about. The whole thing goes for a Massive 29:58 WTF!? BUT it doesn't feel like that when you watch it.

My mp3 recorder is on the blink so I couldn't string it around my neck and keep the audio the same level. But nevertheless it'll do. Now I just need to do a Shortened Version  :icon_mrgreen:

Anyway. You can check it out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzTpSMWFhbY

Keep in mind, you might know a lot of stuff I talk about but a person looking for information about the bike so they can make an informed buying decision doesn't. And That's who the video is aimed at.

in the process of watching. not into that tailbag at all. gotta be hurting your gas mileage with it being that high.

Nicely done! I wish other bikes had videos like this. Would make it easier to make a decision if you were comparing different bikes...

Thought the flow could have been a bit better, but overall good comprehensive review.
I like a non-sequitur as much as the next Giraffe.

The difference to the mileage is negligible. Remember, it sits Behind you, like drafting you, as Your Body punches the hole through the air.

Ventura make different size bags and different height racks - as I mentioned in the video.

Thanks for watching.

Yup. I made a video as *I* would like to see. Too many of them just say things like "goes good" has a clip of the bike on the road with rider riding through some bends and so forth (as seen from footpath / sidewalk) and maybe some footage of it idling or getting the guts revved out of it. Some just have the bike idling. Some doing wheelies. But all in all they are too brief. And not very informative. Sterile. I'm thinking of that GSX650 review posted here a while back. I could learn more from a brochure than those dweebs hanging the knee out riding slow around a kart track. With an R6 rider saying "Yep, it's a good bike" or some such jibble.

The Manufacturers need to put out videos like this.

Yessum. I agree. The flow Could have been better. But at some point you have to say "stuff it, the information is what matters, not its resemblance to a big budget professional production" and let it live as it is. That's what makes it a Guerrilla Video  :icon_mrgreen: :thumb:

Great review Mick. Only thing I would have mentioned would have been the cam end float noise some GS's get. The sound might freak a new rider out. I noticed mine has gone away as I think the previous service the wrong grade of oil was used. Have to organize a ride soon  :thumb:

Hey now, be nice...no picking on my review... :flipoff: :icon_razz:

I really like the video...like you said, a little long...some people are not patient enough to click on vids longer than 5mins  :dunno_black:...not that you could have fit that much info into 5mins...

The best part of the video is that it could almost be for anybike, you made it specific to the GS but it's more of a walk through on owning your first bike...nicely done  :thumb:

Can't wait to see how you tackle a "cole's notes" version...

Later.

@Twisted I think there is a Lot more which could have been covered. The rear suspension adjusting tool and possibly how to adjust it, what to look for in fork seal leaks, showing where the air filter is, how there is no fuel filter, the type of oil I use - and certainly - the cam end float noise (for people new to the GS500). I think I'll just to have add that kind of info to the Description/info under the video.  :thumb:

As for a ride. Man, the ride on Sunday was a blast. This was the route I took http://tinyurl.com/3syjlmc - rode to The Bus Stop at the start of Summerland where I waited for the others, followed them down to Kyogle (from a click or two or three behind - you know how they ride  :) - but I still managed to tank up before they did as they all lined up at the Caltex and I used the BP across the road HA!) where they all went back to Nimbin and I continued to Urbenville. The Mt Lindesay is all fixed - no lane-wide pot holes or gravel strewn holes, only a couple places with fresh road gravel but well signposted. Summerland was good. The pub food was filling. Traffic not too bad for an Easter Break. Home by 3:30 (though I did stop at Rathdowney - and - The Bus Stop and did a 15/20 minute diversion at Urbenville to go look at something that turned out to be nothing) I definitely want to do that one again  :thumb:  :thumb: I'd also like to do the Yangan run again sometime http://tinyurl.com/3gryyce

@madjak30 I agree that some (many?) won't watch a video longer than 5 mins. Although, I like to think, if a person is Hunting information on a bike they are Thinking about buying, they want all the info they can get their hands on. Which is why they watch as many Review videos as they can, often getting frustrated that the type of info they are looking for isn't there.

The Cliffs/Coles/Crib/Study Notes version is going to have to be bike only with narration or a quick point-by-point thing without further explanation. Or bike and presenter with the same point-by-point run down - like quickly mentioned the underseat storage without showing it, taking 30 seconds to mention a thing instead of the explained/expanded 2 minute version :) We will see. I'll get it down to less than 10 minutes this way, but don't think I'll get it down to five.
