Bolt extraction possible?

I took my ill-fated bike out of storage today and removed all the broken parts. I noticed that the signal rotor was missing and this bolt completely broken off:



How would I go about extracting this bolt? Is all hope lost?

it sounds as though your bike is still in peices
its not clear from your picture if the remnants of the bolt are still protruding if they are try using a pair of vice grips
if the bolt has broken off in the treaded hole i would take it to an engineering shop they have the skills to this quicky and comparitively cheaply they will remove it either by drilling it out or by using an easy out . They can also use a helicoil to rethread the hole, to do this buying the kit yourself is not cheap either
you may want to search helicoil here
If you do this yourself and stuff it up its $500 engine vs $50.00 at the shop

To many variables to give a answer.
How tight is the remenant?
Why did the head shear off?
Did it bottom out in the hole?
Is there enough protrusion to try one of these on it?....

How hard is the bolt?
How hard is the crank end, could a thread be cut in it for a helicoil, is there enough metal there to drill it oversize for a helicoil?

Take it to a pro and let them look at it and advise, they may be able to drill it out and clean up the thread or an Easyout might work if the remenant is not too tight, they may even  suggest spark-errosion.
The real question is if anything can be done reliably with the crank still in the engine!

I live in a remote area with no pro shop around for hundreds of miles and I have no access to a truck, so the chances of me being able to get it done professionally are very slim.

The bolt has cracked off a little past the outer ring that you see in the picture. What size of extractor do I need to get the rest of the bolt out?

because this is in a critical area, i would drop the engine and take it to a machine shop

they would be able to drill it perfectly straight, at the perfect diameter and not muck things up


in lab recently i broke off a 5/64s drill an inch deep into a mold and they burned it out with an EDM perfectly, to a ten-thousandth
