As a motorcyclists i was taught to ride as if I was invisible and that EVERY driver will pull out/over on you. The rider has to take it upon themselves to keep safe because no else is.

Right On!!

90% of the population are bad drivers, the other 10% are motorcyclists (and 50% of them are untrained).
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

i've been riding super defensive, thinking every car out there is going make a bee line for me.

had my first semi-close call this morning on the way to work. just another oblivious women yapping on her cellie.

it was in town, four lane road with a median, 35mph posted limit. i was in the process of passing and noticed she was on the phone, would have had to speed up to at atleast 10-15mph over the posted limit to get around her quick enough. so i slowed back and whataya know, bam, no blinker, didn't even check in her mirrors. even tho i was watching, i still had to catch the brakes quick enough that it got my blood pumping. rode behind her for a second(still never peeped in her mirrors) then got back in the slow lane. got up beside her and gave her the, "hey, what the hell?" look ...she had no clue.

Oh yeah, gotta watch for all those little signs the other drivers give you they are NOT paying attention...

- not maintaining position in a lane
- indicator left on for ages
- sudden braking even though it could have been seen traffic was slowing (if they had looked ahead instead of at the road's surface 40 yards ahead)
- way below limit slow driving where there are side streets (obviously looking, watch for sudden random braking)
- no/late indicator and sudden pull over - careful, might do a uturn in front of you
- car on side of road and reverse lights flash briefly - just put into drive, look out for car to suddenly come out
- car on side street pulling up - a quick glace in your direction and then BAM pull out
- tailgating car on multi lanes - trying to push car in front, watch for sudden lane change
- Car ahead in next lane is gaining on car in front - they'll want to come out, expect it
- Volvo
- Broad brimmed hats on driver
- whole arm hanging out window - everyone of these I've seen does something stupid in their "coolness"
- dangling Asian thing from rearview - Asian driver, look out (down here they are ALL bad)

Just for starters. Heaps more signs.

Include in your list:

- Dudes with expensive cars that love to go 10 mph in a 30 because there are patches in the road that make it rough.
- Idiots that come to a complete stop for a speed bump
- In Seattle - all those cars (40% of them) that park on the wrong side of the street. Nearly hit head on many times when they cross over to part OR are crossing over when pulling out.
- Cars parked with just the front wheels in a drive way and the rest of the car sticking out into the street.
- Cars cutting corners on traffic islands rather than going around them.
- Cars that signal a right turn, so as you make a left turn, they convert their right turn into a full circle left hand u-turn in the intersection.

Old ladies

Taxi drivers who think the road rules only applies to the rest of the driving community and that they must be in front of you no matter how they get there.

Along the same lines of the people who come to a complete stop for speed bumps, drivers who come to a complete stop at round a bouts or give way signs when there is no traffic to be seen.

Old ladies

Vehicles with the stick figure family stickers in the rear window or "Baby on Board" signs. These seem to adopt the "I must kill all other road users through my inattentiveness" method.

Mothers who when going to cross the road will push there pram and baby out in to traffic first to check whether it is safe for them to cross

Oh and old ladies.

How did we forget ---
- drivers on cell phones
- drivers texting
- drivers putting on makeup
- drivers shaving (where they're shaving I leave to your imagination)
- drivers eating
- drivers with dogs in their lap
- people with those plastic jesus fish stuck to the back of the car (they can do no wrong because they will be forgiven)
- SUVs with flip down TV screens for the kids that block their rear view mirror
- Drivers who think "No right turn on red" doesn't apply to them.
- drivers doing all of the above at the same time

My favorite/worst nightmare was being behind a lady in an SUV signaling for a left turn. Had the rear view mirror turned towards herself because she was combing her hair and putting on makeup - even when the light turned green and she made the left turn (nearly taking out everything) - still combing hair and makeup. Needless to say, I left more than 2 seconds of space between her and me. Or would it have been so bad if she had taken out the KFC on the far corner?

Adfalchius

I had a lady in front of me signal to turn left....but then turn right   :cookoo:.  I sometimes pass cars when they've stopped and are waiting to make a turn if there is room, but luckily in this case I did not.  Always consider that people might not know their right from their left or don't know how to use their signals properly...or both.  They're out to get you!

I may or may not be involved as a witness to a legal case where a biker is suing a driver. This biker passes a car, on the LEFT, over a double yellow line (other side of road), while the car has its LEFT blinker to turn LEFT into a street. He got hit and went down hard. Sometime the guys on two wheel dont have much sense either. However this is all speculation as I shouldnt make official comments on the matter  :icon_razz:
