So....I take a little trip to the DMV to register my new bike.  I bought it from a private owner that had previously had the bike registered in another state.  I'm in the state of California.  The DMV tells me that the title is clean.  The bike is clear except they can't register the bike in California because it doesn't meet California standards!  :icon_eek: The bike is a 2006!!! They said its a 49 state bike and Cali isn't one of them!!!! What do I do now!!???   >:(   :bs:

Send me the bike, Im in Washington. There are lots of things to love about Commi-fornia but the laws are so crazy I would never live down there. Ummm, I'm not sure if there's any hope for you.

what? i own a 2006 gs500f in CA and have it registered with the DMV. it's perfectly legal.

Bikes intended for sale in California have different emissions equipment than those for the other  49 stars. SDP, you have one that was intended for California. It has a smaller fuel capacity, probably less power, and weighs more.

I think your right ke7syv  I don't think there is anything I can do about it.  I'm F@#Ked!  You wanna buy it!? LOL Its for sale!

raivis yep SOL...The DMV chick said I can't modify it. She said that it wasn't built to be sold in Cali!

Now you know why the Previous Owner didn't register it in Cali. He's passed his problem on to you. Buyer Beware. Due your dues. A lesson learned.

So, head to Nevada and register it there or somewhere outside of Cali using an obliging relative's address.  :thumb:

Move out of Cali - the preferred option.  :thumb: :thumb:

Sucks to hear that man. I'm always annoyed of the fact that in PA I have to go to a notary with the current owner so we can transfer the title together, instead of just signing it over like people do in other states, but this is one thing I wouldn't have to worry about here because someone can't just hand me a title and act like everything is normal. Good luck with it, but it sounds like you're probably going to have to sell it and find something new.

Ouch! get your money back from the guy that you bought if from! He tricked you! and thats not right.  He should have let you know that you can't register if for street use in california.
