So I bought a 12V accessory port with mounting plate and built-in fuse at Radioshack, along with some electrical tape and zipties. I ran this from my battery up through the frame of the bike, and superglued the mount right below the clutch handle. Now I was able to power my phone while riding.

Next was to find a way to MOUNT the phone easily on the bike without any permanent damage.

So I bought this...

Then I just used the mounting plate part, zip-tied it to the handle bars and VOILA, instant phone/GPS. Now I can have easily accessable turn by turn directions on the bike in easy view. Too often I would ride around and forget where to go, but no more.

I was worried about hitting a bump and the phone flying out of the holder, but this is a pretty snug fit, so hopefully nothing will go flying.

The only thing I might have to do now is figure out a way to weather-proof it, but living in CA, I never ride in the rain anyways and I could probably just cover it with a sandwich bag in a pinch. Thoughts?

Looks great, wish I could find a phone case like that for my POS phone haha. I have it wired up already, but don't have any option but to put my phone in the tank bag map pocket.

I actually did something similar on my fz8 with this iphone car mount - but i dont trust the clasps on the holster portion of the mount so i zip tie my phone down as to it as well. I ended up here (sorry for the digging) looking for a more motorcycle friendly mount for my iphone. I have come across these Akron Motorocycle mounts, just dont know if they would be any more secure than what i already have...any ideas? Anyone ever paid a premium for a mount?

mine is still fine. ziptying works fine. just check the zipties now and then and make sure they aren't cracking. or just use multiple, so that when one snaps, you're still ok.
