Yea I guess that should be more $$ than a GS. but I have powdercoated stuff, I have had frames done for 150-200 ... the cutting and welding and powdercoat I'd probably rate as a 750-1000 buck job, if you would find someone who wants a $2500 GS.
Cool.
Buddha.

Doing cutting and welding myself, and minus the cost of equipment, I'd be reusing the stock parts, just configured differently.

Now, to practice my welding skills. Last time I welded was mig and tig. I fail at tig, but did good with mig, ugly, but good penetration w/o blow through.

I plan on getting a stick welder, and using 1/16 electrodes. Should get good pentration, but it'll be ugly, but being im grinding it down and making it pretty, so it dont matter. I have a friend that can inspect my work for safety, and I plan on practicing on bicycles and other thin-walled things first (neighbors kids bike gets turned frankenbike overnight, and nobody know how the huffy grew a chainsaw motor, mount, and throttle contol =) )

Funny way to try to sell a bike: "Pictures and more in-depth details upon receipt of ****LEGITIMATE**** replies.
"  so no pix in the ad or details?

Nah, it isnt a problem to get a legal registration and possible emissions.safety inspection on a custom frame with a small motor that has no paperwork or anything.

Wonder if he includes these phantom plates he speaks of.

Not to mention the CB550 wasn't introduced until 1974!

Cheers!

I kinda like this one... Too bad I don't $4500 like it though http://baltimore.craigslist.org/mcy/2868900107.html

Oh man, I wanna say that bike is literally the crux of everything that is wrong with this "bobber" trend. And that bike is nothing cafe at all ...

Ah c'mon Buddha - its got bar end mirrors so it must be a cafe! :D

That bike does kind of concern me though. The lack of a front fender (and therefore brace), stretched swinger, and a "custom frame" from what I can see. Might be a nice bike, might not.

7 large for a '79? http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/mcy/2885539581.html
But don't worry, it's a head turner

Gross! It looks like a Pez Dispenser with those colors. Who is going to buy that? No really, who buys these things? I never see them ridden. I'm in East PA. I never see boppers. I see some HD choppers. I see a lot of fender eliminator kits screaming up and down 222 from Allentown. ...but no boppers. Where is their natural habitat?

xunedeinx

Garages, and craigslist.

After they hard-tail it, they realize that having no suspension sucks, so they sell it.

Pity is, its a Maxim 1100, the only pre 84 4 cyl yamaha that while it eats transmission just like the rest, it has a 2 storey engine case, you can get to teh tranny without going through the top. Invert the bike and get it via the pan.
Cool.

Dude ... Ok fine that was a bit assuming - opposite of unassuming. Where I assumed everyone has a maxim sitting round with its guts open. OK guilty.

I'm pretty sure this guy won't have to worry about any HD lawsuits in the future...

Yea that is a POS plain and simple. I think when it used to be 1 in a million bikes somew=time in the early 90's I would think it was thought of as cool and novel ... now that every 2 bit redneck has a welder he bought from harbor freight and can weld like no tomorrow, every second bike is a bobber. WTF is all I can say ... sorta like the trend of every one studying to be a CSI.
Cool.
