Hi all,

I was just wondering where you all have your feet in relation to your pedals when riding. I know I need to adjust mine cause I'm too tall for them.  My left foot is quite a ways under the gear shift so that I have to pick up my foot off the peg to down shift.   The right pedal is up so high my toes are under it and I'm fairly certain it shouldn't be that way.  I'm pretty much certain i have to get my toes above my break so I'm mostly wondering for the gear shift.  Above, right next to, or below the gear shift lever.  It's strange I've been riding for a year this way without questioning it that much.

Thanks!

My GS has pegs not pedals.

So let me get this, you ride with your feet positioned Under your gear selector and Under your brake?

Try these...

- Arch of foot on peg, heel touching head guard, toes point Out
- Toes/balls on peg

Both will solve your problem.

Wow, sorry for calling them pedals.  What do you like call the thing that actuates the rear brake?

Haha. I call it the brake "pedal" or "lever".

To answer the original question, I put the balls of my feet on the pegs. But if you are tall, that may be uncomfortable.

Both levers are adjustable, so why not experiment?

i'm still in a beginner and was thinking about this while cruising some tamed back roads last weekend. i noticed i've been riding with the balls of my feet resting on the peg.  sometimes i find myself with the peg in the bend/knuckles of my toes and i'll be monkey grippin it with my feet, but this feels unsafe as if my feet will slip off at any moment.

as for toe positioning, i never have my foot resting on the shifter unless i'm preparing to change gears. probably just habits from the cage, since my grandpa taught me to not ride with my foot sitting on the clutch pedal.

yeh they teach you not to cover the shifter and clutch in the msf courses too. i've also heard you shouldn't cover the brake either as it leads to accidents (probably panic induced over braking).

I ride with the arches on the pegs and move up as I need to to shift and brake.  I only cover the rear brake when I split lanes or am going through poorly designed freeway interchanges.

Yea, 6'3" means that balls of my feet always on the pegs feels like I already have rearsets goin on.  I certainly ride that way when anything interesting is happening but there's mostly straight roads and cornfields by me.  With long legs, I think the geometry makes my feet point down a little more.  Any taller GSer's wanna chime in on their set-up?

There is a thread somewhere that shows a person who lowered the pegs by making an adapter. You could have the seat recovered with more padding to raise yourself up a couple inches.
Pegs Lowering: It is somewhere in this one and maybe in other threads:

Arch of foot on peg, heel touching heel guard, toes point Out and thus next to your gear selector and brake. They will obviously still point down a little but won't be Under your gear selector and brake
