First round of maintenance on my first bike

Hey there, I've found good help here so far, and I'm preparing to do my first round of maintenance on my first bike - a 2005 gs500f that I bought with about 21k miles.

It runs pretty well - I've identified two problems I'd like to fix though:

1) The tachometer light is dead. I'm assuming it's just the bulb and not the wiring, I hear the bulb there goes out fairly often.
2) I have a lot of trouble getting the bike to neutral unless the engine is off. Either I just feel two quick clicks and it goes right by neutral, or if I'm in first and stopped at a light or something, I press up and just can't move the lever at all.

So I'd like to do the following maintenance:
- Replace the tach and speedometer bulbs
- Oil + filter change, why not
- Bring in slack on clutch cable

I went to an auto parts store and asked what a good synthetic oil is for a motorcycle with a wet clutch, and he had no idea. They didn't have the right size filter either. Should I order this stuff online? I feel like it's better than dealing with the limited selection of smaller bike parts stores.

I'm not sure whether or not to get an LED bulb - is it just a simple replacement? Or is there soldering work to do? I read it's much easier on post-2002 models here:
http://wiki.gstwins.com/index.php?n=Upgrades.LEDIndicators
but I'm a bit confused at the selection of bulbs - as long as it's the right type it should be just plug it in, right? Do I screw it in, or is there soldering to do?

The guide here seems to imply that it's pretty easy:

In another topic someone identified my second issue as too much slack in my clutch cable, and it needs to be adjusted on the engine side. I found a guide here:
http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=20468.0
that goes in more depth, but I basically need to follow the first three steps (except adjusting it the other way), right?

I feel like I just need a bit of help with how to do these - what oil and filter to get, what bulb to get, and a little more info on how to adjust the clutch cable.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Fram CH6000 should be available or could be ordered from your local auto parts dealer.  I don't think synthetic oil is worth the cost, but if it makes you feel better, no harm.  Just make sure it meets JASO MA standard.

Right type, just plug it in.  There are a few cases where an LED light could be plugged in backwards.  No harm, if it doesn't light, just turn it around.

I'm not over-thinking it, I just simply don't know what to do or where the adjuster is...
