My 95 is experiencing some power loss. I have changed the oil and plugs, but it still seems sluggish. If I really get on it, it will go, but it seems that my "Sweet Spot" has come down from around 80 mph to around 65. I am running the Castrol Synthetic Motorcycle oil with NGK plugs. It just rolled 17K on the mileage. Any of you guys with the higher mileage bikes have any suggestions?

how recent was your last valve clearance check?

Could also be a partially clogged carb, is the tank rusty or has it been sitting for a while?

Hasnt had a valve clearance check since I have had it. (Almost a year) The tank is new. I am gonna pull the air filter tomorrow night.

Good plan. Here's to hoping it's something minor and cheap

Pulled the airbox and cleaned it, not a lot of change but a improvement. I checked the plugs, they were slightly loose. Still seems sluggish. Any more suggestions

Make sure your tires aren't flat and your chain links aren't binding up.  Your drive chain is probably not long for this world at 17k, by the way.

Put a new chain on it just about 400 miles ago. The tires were replaced in Dec. Anyone in Miss or Louisiana that has done a valve clearance

Sounds like a possible bad frame petcock. If you are running on PRI(prime) then you are getting a restricted fuel flow at higher speed and RPMs.It could also be a valve adjustment issue. These style carbs are sensitive to vacuum issues and a valve adjustment will solve that issue.

Took it to the shop, and left it with a heavy sigh. The mechanic says with 17k on the odometer, it probably just needs a serious tune up ( I have never done anything more than routine maint. on it). This will be $300 bucks. Here is hoping it isnt anything more serious.
