So like a fool today I went tooling around on craigslist to take a gander at what the Denver market has to offer for motorcycles right now.  I find a lot of scooters (they're freaking huge out here), a lot of old stuff, and then I come across a 2000 SV650.

http://denver.craigslist.org/mcy/2396086862.html

As far as what I can gather, it ticks all the boxes.  Looks extremely well maintained.  Pretty low miles.  Has a pipe, air cleaner, and has been rejetted to match both and the wacky altitude here.  Bar end mirrors, sweet bars, the whole 9.  The question comes in at the price.  3 grand.  KBB, as useless as it can be for motorcycles, lists this bike at 2 grand.  I'll be honest, if I went to check it out and everything seemed legit, I'd want it.  Bad.  I'd probably keep the GS around for awhile anyway.

So is this too overpriced?  Just right?  I plan on getting in touch with the guy tomorrow sometime but I wanted to ask you guys first.

Looks clean but that price is a bit high.  I paid $3000 for an '06 2 years ago and it had less than 2000 miles on it.  You can always go check it out and make a lower offer.  I'd be satisfied paying $2000-2300 for that bike.  Don't be afraid to walk away, there will always be other bikes   ;)

Yeah my girlfriend got her '05 SV650S last year for $2500 so that might be a bit high.  Hers had a couple of spots of rash but otherwise in good condition.

He claims you can eat off the chain as if it is a good thing? Should have lube all over it. Anyhoo, if you do buy this bike and check it out see why the front indicators are out of whack, check for rash and make sure he throws in that paddock stand cause you won't have the comfort of a centre stand as you do on the GS.

Yeah I dont understand SV650 prices...
Before I got my current bike I would browse around online everyday.
ALWAYS seen SV650s $1000+++ Over book value.
Average was $3000 to $4000, no matter the year.

not jokin, the only ones close to a reasonable price were worth Less then book value.

Ticked me off cause an SV650 was my first choice in sport bikes if I couldnt find a cruiser.

I can understand if there was a High demand for them, but around here I've NEVER seen one on the road before. (north east Pa)

That one is def. overpriced.
Personally if I had cash in hand, $2500 would be my Maximum offer. (if I still didnt have Anything to ride)
Simply because that is one CLEAN bike. (visually anyways)

That's what I'm thinking, 2500 max.  It's one thing to have a clean bike thats well maintained, it's another to try to charge an arm and a leg for it.

Tombstones81

Yea, I could see if there was a Ton more new parts added that cost more then a few bucks.
But that doesnt seem to be the case, even if the stand were to possibly be included.

UGH im happy with my bike (GS500) but I'm still jonsin for an SV650.
Next year Possibly! lol
Really like naked style sport bikes but something about the Blue and that specific style is simply sweet on the eyes for me.

What people dont understand in the car and bike market is that extras and upgrades do not increase the value or selling price of a bike/ car, at all. If the book value is say 2500 and you have added 1000 worth of upgrades, its still only worth 2500.

It really depends. If you have a super clean bike for $2500 and a super clean bike with over $1000 in aftermarket parts for $3000, I would pay the $3000 rather than having to be in it for $3500 for the same thing by adding the parts myself.

That's kind of the problem for me.  I would have to WANT all $1000 worth of aftermarket parts on there, and usually I don't.  If I do want them, then I would want to install them myself to know how they were put on the bike.

+1  I'd rather buy stock and modify myself than trust others abilities.  I see hacked up stuff everyday at work   ;)

Exactly, thats why parts add no value. Its not that I dont trust people... ok I dont  :icon_lol: Not that my own work is much better but its mine.
