OK...I need to lengthen and shorten various branches of my wiring harness to neatly hide and locate the various components...

I plan on buying a complete used harness off of Ebay to be able to have the correctly colored and marked wires to add length to certain branches.

My Brother, who does a lot of wiring will b doing the work with my assistance, he suggested I buy the individual metal pins (Brass?) that fit over the end of each wire and push into the back side of the plastic blocks/connectors. I've seen him take these types of things apart and feel he knows what hes doing. By having the brass pins for the loom areas I need to shorten I can/he can just cut the loom to the required length, put on new pins and push each pig tail into the connector (After removing the old ones), or something like that, basically he said buy going and getting a bunch pf new pins it will reduce the need for un-necessary soldered joints. He also said the need for these is he has found it difficult to re-use the old ones, I guess prying them off the wires and reattaching them to the shortened wires is hit or miss.

So, can I buy these somewhere?

Additionally, can I purchase the individual plastic connectors/blocks, not the ones on the wiring loom end but rather from the relays and components they attach to? If I can purchase the connectors, as well as a used harness I/he can make basically extension type plugs for the areas that need lengthening.

Anyone have any ideas on if I can get these items, where and how much?

Do a google search for "vintage connections". They sell huge kits with everything or smaller, more individual kits.

No problem. I personally haven't ordered from them but know others who have. Nothing but praise about them.

So, with the above listed components, think I'll cover what I need?

I actually have no idea. I've never worked on a GS500 or used their wiring kits. I think your bro could give you a better answer.

Vintage connections is good to do biz with.I have.Call them if you have any questions.I do not know what all connectors are on our GS's.When I redo the harness on my 91,I plan to use GM weather pack connectors every where I can.Just tossing out an idea since GS seem to have connection issues at times. They can be bought at most any parts store.

If you have to do soldered connections, use heat shrink rather than electrical tape, or use self-amalgamating tape. Wipe joint with silicone first to prevent corrosion.

Guys the best way to do this AFAIK - go to pull a part and pull these things off cars with missing doors etc. I got a coffee can full.
New chinese crap has a lot of moulding flash in the holes ... you may get poor contact if you use that.

Cool.

The ones I get from All Pro are not like that. They are the ones made by Delphi for GM.

Ben, BUddah and the others that chimed in, I think i will go from a kit from Vintage connections...

Using this kit, I will have no soldered joints.

I will re-wrap and shrink wrap everything to mimick or better the factory look and protection.

Pics to follow.

Thanks again.
