Can't believe they ran that Cub on chip oil lol. Some good bikes in there. Norton Commando should have been in there somewhere though.

yamahonkawazuki

it pained me to watch that cub get dropped like that.    have a neighbor with a cub i restored for him. engine needed ONLY a carb cleaning and it fired on stale fuel lol :cookoo: was fun to test-ride. dangers hell yes. my motorised bicycles are dangerous. this thing went faster. and had the same type of braking power lol  :cookoo: :cookoo: id want one to try a cross country ride lol

Does a Honda Cub or "Honda 50" or whatever they called it qualify as a motorbike?

Twism86

I say put the 916 first. I love the 916, 996 and 748. There is someone who rides a yellow 748 to work everyday, such a nice bike.

I passed up the chance to buy a running T100 from the 70's years ago for $500. Was in good shape too. Im still kicking myself for that one.....

That makes me want a Honda Super Cub.  It looks like a great run about for local jaunts.  Able to travel over 50 mph would make it a great city bike or something to bring on our family vacations so I have something to ride. It's under 200 lbs so it could be transported on my trailer hitch cargo platform. I googled the Honda Super Cub and read that it hasn't been available in the US since 1983.

What would be the current equivalent to the Honda Super Cub here in the US? I would think some kind of 125cc scooter.

@Yama was this the Discovery Channel list? (Sorry if this is explained in the videos - I cannot watch videos on dialup )

@Twism I think we all want to kick you for passing up such a deal  :2guns:

I love the Cub / Super Cub. After a minibike it was the first Big bike I wanted and it's still made to this day. Think our GS has a long production run with 1989, this sucker has been made since 1958! I believe it was ridden in some movie with Cary Grant in it.

What isn't the GS500 in the list. Surely a 20+ year build history has to count for something  :dunno_black:

Honda Cub and variants... there have been over 60 million built over the past 50 years. Making it something like the most successful, motorized personal transportation device ever.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/columnists/jamesmay/3267424/Honda-Cub-The-greatest-machine-ever.html

For reference, there were 21 million VW Bugs built. I believe the next runner up was the Model T, at 15 million.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Beetle
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Model_T

They haven't sold these in the States in years, but they are sold virtually everywhere else in the world. I see close variants in the US... extra-long GY6 blocks with big wheels refered to as "big wheel scooters" or such, which is arguably a better design (more enclosed drivetrain with lower service requirements).

Closest thing here that use that Honda engine (Lifan clones anyway) are the 110cc "pit bikes" that use the same engine, knockoffs of the XR50s. Those bikes are everywhere.

Don't forget the Yamaha TZ750!  And this is the closest I'd want to get to a scooter:

http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/yamaha/yamaha_xt125r%2005.htm
V&H pipes, K&N drop-in, seat by KnoPlace.com, 17/39 sprockets, matching grips, fenderectomy, short signals, new mirrors - 10 scariest words: "I'm here from the government and I'm here to help!"

Big Rich

If that's the same list that I'm thinking of (can't watch videos either), I liked how they say the CB750 is to "reliable" so they had to put it at #3

i think what kicked the cb down was that it was "boring" our beloved gs has no spot in there. i had an old paso. i brought back from phoenix. miss that thing too  :technical:

What about the old Yamaha two stroke triples?

Yeah- they were great. For paying widows the insurance money. Hence the term "widowmakers"

What about the old Yamaha two stroke triples?

Did you mean Kawasaki?  Yamaha never made a 2-stroke triple - they made twins and 4-cyl two-strokes (500/700/750). The Kawa's earned the name widow-maker... The Yamaha RD350 was known as the "giant-killer".

I believe you're right, my mistake.
