OK I got paint stripper spray on my face. Just a misting literally. So it burns like a bleeeaaaach ...

Water makes it hurt more though I have washed it a million times as well as showered with baby shampoo.

So is there somthing that will keep it from burning ... touch hurts, water hurts, and any bloody movement hurts.
Any medics on board has an idea ?

That sucks, its partially my fault

I found this on the web:

cold water is the best first aid when you burn yourself - 20 minutes under the tap is ideal. NEVER ice or vinegar or milk or butter or mustard or toothpaste or sunscreen or semen or vaseline or tomatoes or vanilla extract or yogurt or sour cream or egg white or lavender oil or cocoa butter or salt or tea or potato or shaving cream or olive oil- not until the skin is fully healed! ignore anyone who advises any of these!

for a chemical burn the injured/affected area should be irrigated for 2hours. thats right where ever he is burnt get it under a tap, make sure the water goes straight to ground. chemical burns must be irrigated for between 1 to 2 hours. since i don't know what sort of chemical i'll say that better more than less is very true in this cases.

i would advise that you cover the burnt area with sterile paraffin wax or aqueous cream bp. (check the links below and see if you can find a local equivalent)

cover the burnt area in paraffin wax after cleaning and removing any burst blisters - these are just sites of infection and will take longer to heal. wash and reapply every 4-6 hours - cover with cling wrap if you wish to cover with clothes - this will stop your clothes getting covered with paraffin and maintains the burn.

cling wrap alone is ok if you can't get hold of any paraffin. it also acts as a protective artificial skin - helping retain moisture and protect from further damage and pain. cling wrap is cheap and clean off the roll. in Australia ambulances often use this when someone has been burnt. - please note that cling wrap isn't always practical, like on your face.

paraffin creates a seal stopping water leaving the body and reduces pain as it protects sensitised nerves. the paraffin imitates the natural oils secreted by the skin. skin cells are better able to multiply and regenerate with this treatment. pain is also helped. make sure you buy plenty of this paraffin - as the burn heals switch to aqueous cream bp.(aqueous cream has a bunch of paraffin in it plus some moisturisers - look out for stuff that also contains sorbolene or glycerine as these help also). following this regime definitely will help your sunburn heal faster and peel less. aloe is good coz it remoisturises but that moisture can be quickly lost as the skin can't contain fluids- this is a function of healthy skin.

so put aloe on, and then the paraffin on over the top as long as there is no broken skin this works great. if there is broken skin leave out the aloe - just paraffin.

long term treatment to prevent scarring or loss of function due to contractures(as skin heals it can tighten reducing how much you can move - a skin graft is necessary to repair this). daily moisturiser, daily stretches - talk to a physio, pressure bandages like tubigrip, massaging the scar. this all reduce/flatten the scar and minimise the need for further treatment/surgery.

Don't they usually have a number on those cans of who to call in case stuff like this happens? :)

Its been washed off, and Jeb nothing to do with you, bad coating by prev owner mainly, but then I opened a can of stripper that was bulged from the heat with my face to protect the spray from hurting the air ... nothing but stupidity from me.

I am over the initial strong burning part. Now what hurts the worst is water and hand contact.
I am going to take a nap under the fan ... and a house set to 12 below freezing ... that oughta freeze the stuff clean
off.

Bacitraycin Plus with Aloe.

I had a near toxic avenger looking burn on my hand-lots of blisters-so a good 2nd degree burn ( grease fire...had to carry the pan outside ....ahh the price we pay for Bacon...)- used the bacitraycin  on it daily and I have no scars.....

Warning.... the first application....( I may have done it too soon. ) burned like a SOB for a minute...then it felt much better.

Next time soak your head for two hours.... :icon_mrgreen:

My bad...not the same treatment.

Dry sterile dressings ... changed regularly- rinse the burns with a mild antibacterial soap....let them air dry before new bandages.... ( Everything I could find said this ...).

If it's bad go see your doc.

Well its hurting less, water and touch still sting as does any movement, but the thing otherwise is nicely subsiding.
I look like a clown though ... not the metaphoric "clown" I use to refer to crazy people. Circus clown ... yea ...
I could not touch much of anything today, the cooking my wifey does with injun spices freaking sting ... even 20 ft away. No idea what to do, but I am thinking nothing for now, take tommorow off or work from home and get it to heal up a bit before going to work tuesday.
Cool.

Maybe call a doctor...see what you can put on it... Paint stripper is an alkaline (any numbers on the can you can call?)...

Stay out of the sun. Can't see why you couldn't use a burn ointment  -it's all washed off- but I'm not a doc and you don't want to make it worse...

From my reading consulted the U.S Special Forces Medical Handbook couldn't find my EMT text book. But, since it is the face you can leave it open there are proponents for and against weather you want to use a selvedene cream or other anti-biotic on it. For the blisters as long as they are clear just let them be. If they burst trim them with sterile scissors so to not extend the peeling. Its just gonna take a bit for a second degree burn to heal. Sorry, but it's just gonna hurt for a while. Take tylenol or advil whichever your body tolerates. If you see signs of infection or it's not healing after a few days have an MD look at it. BTW wear a mask next time :thumb:

I would say go see a doc, take time off work to avoid prolonged pain and possible scarring.

Thanks for all the advice guys, leave it alone is it.
WFH today, but back to the grind tommorow, it now looks a lot worse than it feels. As long as I am not moving any part of my face.

Glad you're healing up Buddha. Although, I've got to ask out of curiosity, how'd you manage to get paint stripper on your face?

STAY OUT OF THE SUN. Good way to turn a bad second degree burn into a third degree burn. You don't need to be a RED Injun  >:(

He he he ...
Too late, already sporting a few spots of red blotches. The spot that peeled first hurts the most even now. Its nice and red from sun exposure. Now I got moisturiser with spf 30 sun block.

If the epidermis is not healed you are just slow cooking your face and it will never heal. Seriously, stay out of the sun SPF 1000 is the only thing that will help you (BTW SPF1000 is the Burka that Islamic women wear). If you want it to heal you will stay out of the sun completely for a few days.

Now tell me what is wrong with Flick!
