Im fairly new to the site. only joined last fall when i purchased my '90 gs500.  not knowing anything about bikes, i thought i would take the time over the winter and tinker with mine and get to know it and try to fix a couple small issues. After having a friend look it over for me, he pointed out the tires were in excellent shape, the chain and sprockets were changed recently and brakes were good. it needed not much more than a tune up.

the first thing i noticed when looking it over before i purchased it was that it had been dropped at one point or another. the rear/right blinker was snapped off from the rear fender mount. i thought the stock ones stuck out pretty far anyways and i wanted to modernize things a little bit so i installed some LED's.  Thanks to the FAQ section on here, i was able to get them working properly! Thanks to those who contributed.

i wasnt crazy on the silver frame as it was slightly scratched and was getting rusty in the scratched areas. I decided after looking at alot of pics on here and google that i really liked the idea of a semi-gloss black frame.  after getting things back together though , i do regret not painting the tripple tree area, but i guess that leaves work for me to do next winter right?  lol.

i decided to leave the tank and plastics the colors as i got them, but i did decide to polish it up a bit and clean the wheels.

i know its not as elaborate of a build as some of the pretty sweet bikes on here, but being this is my first, i thought i would keep it simple for this year and focus on riding it and fixing what is required.

anyways.....  time for some pics!

the day after i brought it home..

my new blinkers..  i trimmed the rear fender of where the plastic was cracked, and re-mounted the blinkers on either side of the license plate.

in the last couple days, ive put almost 150 kms on it and so far the only thing that seems to be an issue is the gas tank rattling.  not the end of the world..  just annoying....lol
Thanks for looking.

Welcome to the forums, a lot of great info here.

Good job! I need to put LEDs on my bike, how much did they run you?

Tombstones81

that is in some NICE shape for its age! (original pic) (compared to mine anyways! hahaha and still 4 yrs older!)

Lookin good tho!
plan to disassemble mine if it makes it to winter as well and clean everything and repaint everything that can be and the frame black like that too

and dont be knockin the stock blinkers!!
Mine were bent fully against the side of the bike in my wipe last week and went right back into place when I picked it up.
only scratched up the front covers.
so they might be a slight eyesore but plenty durable  :thumb:

hope it keeps going well!

i got them on ebay over the winter. i think they were only about $20 including shipping.  then about another $10 for the new relay.
