So I have been havinga problem with the choke on it revs fine and does not bogg but when I turn the choke off it boggs when snaping the throttle. one thing I noticed is if I pull out the dipstick(same style as the GS) I get mad blowby. I mean I need a muffler scewed on the dipstick hole. would that cause the bogging down? and as far as fixing could I just remove the head pull the wrist pin and slap some new pitons on or would the rods need to be removed as well?

Sounds like you may have bad rings if you have problems with blow by and that could cause carbs issues.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

I figured the rings were bad and if I had a compression gauge with a small enough adapter I would check and be 100%. but even being an older motor i never heard of having pressure comming out the crankcase unless its passing the rings. So my next step is to pull the motor and the heads. from what I can see from the diagram the wrist pins have two snap rings.

Any CM185 must be about 30 years old now.....I would check the breather and any emissions limiting pipework etc isnt clogged up with crapola before pulling the pots off.

POTS= CYLINDERS.....translation from blimey ENGLISH to MERICAN

from what I see no emissions on this bike. no vac lines on the carb or airbox. just an airbox carb and motor. and as far as those pistons go I think I would need to bore the cylinders I found a set on bike bandit and they have stock and oversizes. I just need to the the compression from leaking not looking to mod the motor.

Iain, was that the proper use of blimey?

Nope not really.....Blimey is used as an exclaimation of surprize..example `Blimey, thats a big one!` Its not used to describe something. The term is not used up here by us Northeners but it is popular with the Southerners. ie those living down London way.

Saw the snake.....feck me man, if I found something like that at the bottom of my garden I would be shittin` bricks!

Has the card landed yet? This Thurs will be 2 weeks since I posted it.

werase643

NOPE, and if it comes from IOM.... i will kick you in the ballocks

so back on track I aware of the separator but I dont think its an actual emission part its just a oil/air separator. dont think it functions as far as the bike running goes. it goes from a port in the airbox and down to the crankcase. but in the morning im gonna start taking the engine out.

and my favorite question of diagnostics is....
and the compression reading is?
wet?
dry?

if dry is less than 120ish... do a wet reading
if wet goes up....rings are probably knackered
if wet doesn't change....valves
high cranck case press    sounds like you need to check compression to verify a problem
or it will quickly eliminate a potential cause

a cheap harbor freight compression tester is about 10 bucks and advance or autozone prob has them for 20 or rentals/loaners

friend made an adaptor by breaking the ceramic off of a spark plug and welding on an air fitting....FREE!!!!!!!!     then use your big ford comp gauge
