How dumb could you be to bid that much on some gauges, Ive seen some pretty idiotic things on ebay were people pay way to much for something, but if you watch wisely you can save lots of money on ebay.

Hey carful guys I think it's Pablo who dished out the cash for that one. Let's not make the gods angry...

Make sure you check out the bid history too.

Why would anybody out bid themselves like that unless the seller is driving it up?

They're trying to beat an auto bid. You place a bid with an initial amount and limit. eBay will only show your bid as being slightly over the previous high bid. As others try to beat your bid, it adjusts your bid to stay higher than them. It does not register this as additional bids on your part, so it looks like the competitor is bidding against himself.

If you look at the bid time in the history, you'll see that the guy kept bidding in small increments until he finally outbid the proxy bid of the previous high bidder. He wasn't bidding against himself because he wasn't the high bidder.

That's friggin nuts!! When I took my 4 stock GS turn signals off the bike, I couldn't unload them here for $10, so I put them on ebay and got $65!!!! Who'd have thunk?

I know sometimes ebay really shocks you.  I sold an old manual for a Magna one time and got like $20 for it  :o   I expected $5   Then there was the Pioneer surround stereo I sold for $139 that I paid $199 3 years earlier.  It was hardly used but no way did I expect $140 for it -I felt so guilty I shipped it to the guy for free  :o

I have some bike crap/other I need to unload.  I really should get off my ass and sell it.

Wasn't me. I'd only overpay for cool cosmetic/suspension items.
:?

there must be a back story to why he bid so high (desparation, lack of resourses in his home country, etc.). I would hope anyway. Ebay is like that though. You can easily get caught up in trying to "win" and lose sight of the actual value of something. I've seen things sell for full retail (new!) or more-THAT is mind boggling.

shaZam! GUYS I KNOW!  you assume people that use ebay are smart shoppers and just looking for the best deal out there.

I BOUGHT A 1981 KDX 175 DIRT BIKE THAT SOME GUY HAD OUTSIDE HIS GARAGE FOR SELL LAST YEAR.  TALKED HIM DOWN TO $250, WHEN I HAD MY FUN WITH IT I PUT IT ON EBAY AND SOLD IT TO SOME GUY FROM OHIO (THAT DROVE DOWN) FOR $1250.00

clkeith50

Yeah, I picked up a Honda 3-wheeler at a garage sale for $35 and sold it on eBay for $405. And it was a POS.
