Hey All,

I am the owner of a 2005 Suzuki GS500f, I bought it used back in 2008, however I have been extremely busy for the past year and 1/2 to 2 years and have not gotten the chance to ride it.  As I am now temporarily unemployed and have some time on my hands I decided to get my bike out and give it a whirl.  As is typical with any Bike that sits for that long with fuel in the carb   :o. It would not start.   So I have cleaned the carb and put a new drive chain on and it is now up and running again except for one big problem..  When i go to put it in first the engine dies.  I do not think this problem lies with the clutch cable play, I have adjusted it to the max and it will still not release the clutch.  I am a novice motorcycle mechanic by all means but I took off the plate there over the clutch release mechanism and it looks like it presses against a pin which I am assuming releases the clutch.  As I said, I have tightened it to the max with no effect.  Any ideas as to what the problem could be or how to fix it would be tremendously helpful.  I am willing to try anything right now to get my bike running again.

Thanks alot,

   Justin

kick stand switch... he shoots he scores!

ok that might be wrong but it fits your symptoms as described... unless the bike is jerking forward when you hit a gear...

Wow, Thanks lol.. I am pretty sure this was the problem.  Went out and tried it with the kickstand down and it had no problem going to first only i might have over tightened it a little because now i am not getting any acceleration lol.. O well nothing that cant be remedied..

 :woohoo: WOHOOO I WIN!  :woohoo:

on a side note... did it go into first when the kickstand was on the ground or up? if its working backwards... well... hell i don't know what that would mean...

mister

To the OP, if you start it and the engine is still cold and you turn the choke off and try to put it into gear, sometimes it will stall the engine. If you have it revving around 2k the engine will not stall, there will be a small clunk and maybe a small jerk forward.
