Broken Turn Signal Stem Fix

Came back from a 50 miles ride today with a rear turn signal hanging by it's wires.  PO had, I thought, bent it at some point ...but it appears that it was broken.

The stem is just a rubber piece.  Anyway....the "quick/cheapie" fix:

Removed the turn signal.  It is just one nut and a quick disconnect on the wires.  Well and cut off two cable ties so it will come loose.

Take the plastic lens off the black unit - one screw....make sure you slide the lens toward the back before pulling out (there is a plastic tab inside).

Two screws hold a metal clamp (don't know what it's called) in place.  Remove the screws and pull the clamp straight toward you.

This allows the rubber stem to come out of the lens assembly.  The rubber piece in mine was just broken in two.

Slide a 2 penny nail (something metal and about 3" long) into the hole the wires run through the rubber stem.

Move the stem around so it is back like it was prior to being broken.  Use electrical tape to hold it in this position.

Re-assemble in reverse order.   Don't forget to reconnect the wires.

Works like a charm.   (I do plan to order a new unit off Ebay but I can ride without a problem until it gets here)

All sorts of things are done to "fix" it. There is the old epoxy/superglue trick ... There is also those metal tangs (I dunno official name, they are used to hold the ace bandages on) and zip ties etc etc ...

All work on a temporary basis - few days to a few years ...

Cool.

So you're saying I should save the stalks on all the junk turn signals I have rather than tossing them out?
Someone actually can use them?
