Hi guys

just like you I'm modding the hell out of my GS    but I like the mods to be cheap. so This night I thought of what I can do with big effect but low/no cost (like painting the chainguard or taillight flip). I have an 89 white edition with those light/dark blue striping. I thought of replacing the lights in the gauges by blue ones, but that's not enough. Is it possible to change those gauge plates, from black/grey background with white numbers/lines to a white background which lets through some of that blue (or any other colour) light and non transparent lines/numbers? Anyone done this or has idea's how to do this

Hello,

I would be worried the there may not be enough light to see the gauges at night.

Just a though, I know when my speedo light was out, it was frustrating at night.

changing the bulbs into LED's would solve that, I mean there are some very bright LED's and they have LED's that scatter light instead focussing it into one narrow beam, the plate in the stock gauge is just painted right?, with leftouts where light comes through?  :dunno:

From having mine apart, I seem to remember the plates being painted as you mentioned, and the light comes from aound the plate.  The plate being a little smaller than the housing lets the light shine up from around it.

I think.  I'll have to check.

Never-the-less, I think blue gauge lights would be awsome.

Just follow JeffD's write up on the How-to page, I'm gonna do that when I get home.
