Starting to look a bit foolish so you fall back on the old "you're a Troll" routine. Face facts little buddy, there is not a person on this forum that's about to let some freeloading car driving will work for shower stranger off the internet into their home. Show me where anything I have said doesn't make sense, show me where anything you have said does.
I'm finished.  I'm no longer stooping to your level.   ;)

I'm glad the OP asked about showers. Can't offer one myself 'cause I'm renting a room in a house (maybe if you were doing the trip on your bike though  :D). But it would be useful to know about different ways of getting free/cheap showers while on the road. I'm planning a road trip soon so I'm curious about this. I like the gym and truckstop ideas (Ben, how are those truckstop showers?). Any other ideas out there? Public swimming pools? A lot of beaches have showers if you're travelling along the coast.

Last time I done the truck stop shower trick was in winter of 99.I was some where around Alcoa,TN.I've never been to a truck stop with dirty shower rooms. One of the big ones I went to in GA had an attendant just for the showers. It was awesome. They had full shower stalls that were enclosed,a stall with a toilet,a full vanity, seating, and a place to iron/press your clothes. They also offered full laundry service onsite.

I've been a member only a couple of months and have found this forum very helpful & full of info for GSers. I didn't know anything til I joined this forum. I also have received a couple of sarcastic remarks on my posts. Let's keep it fun and not attack folks! There are some great folks here that I would love to meet and share stories. Sorry I'm not on your route...but Good luck and have fun.

Great idea warlock, let's do keep it informative, happy, fun, and on the subject for which it was intended. The really special thing about this forum is the variety of different areas where you can post off topic----feel free to browse.

@OP-

I'm not near your route or I would be PMing you; Mrs. and I have met a fair number of fellow riders over the past two years through forums like this one, so we don't think your request is off base or off topic.

Haven't yet had anyone ask about just a shower, but we've had overnight guests, we've sheltered motos for various reasons, we've gone to help stranded riders, et cetera, all for "strangers" who needed help.  The common interest of riding was enough for me.

In case you haven't noticed, this is a GS500 ( motorcycle ) forum not a free sleepover service for guys that decide to take road  trips they can't afford ---in cars!    I can't believe this is not in the "Tard Farm" by now.

You may have also noticed he hasn't managed to snag any suckers yet.
Seeing as "WHO are you and where are you from?" is stickied in General, I think the OP was spot-on in posting his question here.  We all get that you don't trust him, but that's your cross to bear.

Good for you buddy, with the "if I were only on your route" line it's pretty easy to be generous and fearless, truth is you don't know anything about this guy, how does posting on a bike forum make you somehow ok? Also, which part of anything the guy said makes this post fit the criteria for "A place to discuss anything that deals with the GS500"----he's driving a car, you don't even know if he owns a bike.

Not trusting a complete stranger off the internet into your house is a "cross to bear", since when?

What you mean Iowa sucks, When I drove through there last september, I got a ticket on the way up for tinted windows, and on the way back I blew a tar in the VW ... oh yea it sucks big time.

If you're like even a shade darker than say styrofoam, yea you'd get stopped.
They dont like tinted windows, cos then they cant tell how white you are.

However I spent more time when I blew the other tar in the VW and spent way more $$$ east of Indy. That way Iowa wasn't bad. The ticket well, it was a warning.

Cool.

oj, is there a reason you won't Drop this? You have a personally bad experience with BaltimoreGS?

So the man posted in General. Big friggin deal. Get overt it man. At some point a mod will move it to O&E. End of story.

Instead of bagging the man for posting in the wrong section and kindly warning us all of Stranger danger, why not offer up some alternative shower options and make the thread have some value instead of you biatching about it?

i've let many other people with similar interest as mine(snowboard, freebording, subaru's, etc..) crash on my couch AND use my facilities.

and i would be more than happy with taking in a fellow GS'r to stay, sleep, eat, party, and shower at my house. unfortunately i'm on the east coast, so can't help ya here.

shaZam! my dad use to take it cross county bikers that were needing a spot all the time.

BaltimoreGS

Greetings from Crawfordville, Indiana!!  After spending the weekend at my house in Bedford, Pennsylvania we left at 10 this morning and got here a little before 8pm.  We are spending the night at a campground and heading out for Sioux Falls, South Dakota in the morning.

First of all thanks to all of those who left a positive response. I always post in the "General" forum because that's the one most people read.  Sorry if it upset some people.  Originally this trip was to be by motorcycle but then it seemed more practical to take 4 wheels.

I have been on this earth for over 30 years now and never made it off the East Coast.  I spent the last few years working hard to pay off all my debts and now I am free to have some fun!  I decided to "Jack Kerouac" this first trip   :D  I waited until Kay (Adfalchius) got back from Africa so I'd have a good traveling companion.

For the trip I modified an old Geo Prizm (aka: Toyota Corolla) to suit my needs.  It just turned 180k but is fairly sound mechanically.  The harmonic balancer had separated and all the drive belts let loose.  I replaced the balancer and belts and did a bunch of maintenance items to get the car road ready.  The timing belt had been replaced not too long ago and still looked pretty good so I left it alone.  I debated putting a clutch in it since I don't know the vehicles history but the current one feels like it is grabbing good.  I hope I don't live to regret that decision.  I did put new struts and coil springs all the way around to help handle the weight of the top case I added and all the luggage/gear we are hauling.

The charging system has been modified to accommodate a deep cycle sealed battery in the trunk.  It's used to power an inverter at night so we can run cooking gear, electronics and a fan in the tents.  We also have all the standard camping gear in the case on top of the car like a propane camp stove, chairs, foldable army cot, rice cooker (maybe not "standard"), portable toilet (aka: the poop bucket), etc.  So we pretty much have everything but a shower.  That's not entirely true, we do have one of those solar showers but anyone that has used one will tell you how bad they suck.  I have more pressure when I wiz.

The campground we are at tonight has showers but it's always nice to know if there is one we can pull off the road at along the way to freshen up for another couple hundred miles.  I'll post some pictures of our little set up below.  Hopefully I'll have something cooler to show you guys next time.

And to ojstinson:  I really don't appreciate all the negative comments.  I guess your mother never taught you that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.  You don't know me but if you have a problem with me you can send an IM and not clutter up my posts with your negativity (though odds are I won't bother responding to you).  I have had the privilege of meeting and dining with many members of this forum over the years and for that I am thankful.  There are quite a few people on this board that I would not only let bum a shower if they were passing through Baltimore, I would cook them a nice hot meal  :thumb:

I'm pretty sure that this forum has specific areas designated for topics unrelated to the GS, and there is probably a good reason for it. The only two times in recent memory that I recall saying anything negative were 1. a stupid youtube video of a girl crying about cats, and 2. this guy, driving a CAR around the country looking to get something for nothing. Is it just me, or do neither of these things have anything to do with bikes.

The only difference between me and everyone else on here, that doesn't want this guy anywhere near their shower, is they say so through alternate suggestions---I just don't happen to have any of those.
yes its called Odds and ends. which this topic was posted in  ;)
